WNRP 1620 / W293BA-FM 106.5 Pensacola

Since they lowered power and moved to that tall tower up near I-65, WPFL 105.1 just isn't there south of I-10. It was barely useable from the McDavid, FL tower at 25kw. 105.5 Mobile & FWB are far enough out. 105.3 is really clear in downtown and 5+ miles out before you hear anything significant.

92.3 is first adjacent to 92Zew and Q-92. Also 92.3 from New Orleans is very strong. We'll see how that works out soon.

Now you've got me wondering why they didn't move WPFL south to the WRRX tower as a class A? Seems like changing the COL would be the only issue.

I've never looked into why they didn't move south, that would certainly be the logical thing to do. Most stations gravitate towards the nearest big city, not further out into the cow fields and pine trees! It probably has something to do with the C2 (?) on the same channel in Panama City. The spacing, even for a class A, might not be there.

With the current state of the PCB radio market and all the movements going in right now, someone should just pay WASJ to downgrade to class A and move WPFL down to the beach.

I hope Hale is reading this.

Why would you want Hale to read this stuff, Poledo? What does he operate down along the coast that's actually on the air? I wish Rob would emerge from Navarre. A good dollop of aluminum foil and some extra pretty strobe thingys would get that signal right on to the beach. MapQuest and his donkey(or was that a mule) on Highway 98 are proof.

Hale's the only person that moves those South Alabama FMs down to the beach. Then he sells them. Every station he moved in he sold.

There were several move-ins prior to ole Ron. 98.1 was one of the first and probably the most major one. I see(d) what you are saying. But, it's tough to have anything less than a 25k station in FWB or Pensacola. Maybe some smaller stations can do ok, but it would have to be right in the middle of everything. Given the insane number of signals in the area, whew. I think he had no choice but to sell most of the stations. If he could have done it right and prospered enough, he could have had a nice little chain.

Hey ABMP dude,
It appears 92.3 is done testing and is now on the air in Pensacola.

It's Pensacola's only translator with RDS:
"News Radio 1620"
"850-437-1620"

Since 105.3 in Milton is less than 25 miles from WNRP, can't they go the full 250 watts? Even outside the local contour?

Hmm, for some reason I never got notified when this thread updated. I was just coming to ask about 92.3…

I think a translator for an AM has to be both within the 2 mV/m contour and within 25 miles, and I doubt WNRP's contour reaches anywhere near Milton. Plus, I'm skeptical of how much power they can pull off on 105.3… They're trying to squeeze in between 105.1 up in Century and 105.5 in FWB…

They changed the RDS on 92.3. It now reads, " Testing News Radio 1620"

Guess they means they aren't ready to officially launch the new signal.
