WNRX LP??

It looks like they are cutting back the power on WNRX from 940w @ 600 feet to 1kw at 300 feet. They might as well turn it off and save the power bill.

Why do you refer to the station as WNRX LP. It is not an LPFM... it is Class A.

Understand: I am looking in from some distance away. I don't know the market place or the circumstances of this particular station.

First guess: They want to physically position the station so that could better function as a viable LOCAL station under new ownership.

Second guess: This facility change will clear the way for another nearby station to change power and/or location. The "other station" could be under non-related ownership, but their move or power change would then allow a station related to WNRX in another market get a power increase or location change or frequency change.

Guesses, or course, are cheap. In fact, they are FREE.

There's been a longtime plan to boost 99.1, so I'm guessing it's finally coming along.

Might as well turn off WNRX. Young order takers these days don't know how to sell outside of Knoxville anyway...why, imagine going to Jefferson City and Morristown to sell the Animal, which is the only place that benefits from 99.3. Most of these kids would get lost at the 11E/Asheville Highway split, and that's all that's gonna be left selling for Cumulus anyway, a bunch of kids./ Bigger Knoxville stations still benefit from Moristown agency buys, but all you hear on the Animal anymore is pizza place spots and West Knox porta-dumpsters

Better yet if they're intending to gut the power out of it, give Jefferson County back its FM station, or donate it to Carson Newman to play with. WWJAD? (What would James A. do?) ... C-N College could run a continuous loop of The Best Of The Ken Sparks Show.

I thought the idea was for Cumulus...at least as Citadel..to change COL's and move the 99.1/99.3 combo around to walk 98.7 closer to town.

hey "goat" I was being a smart A$$ on the LP thing. I know it's a full power station but why down grade it so that you can't pick it up outside of JC? They have moved 99.1 from Loudon to Friendsville which wasn't that big of a move considering where the tower was previously located. You can't move 99.3 towards the TriCities any more because of WTZR in Elizabethton, and it's a C3.

How much audience would they pick up? Doesn't their entire audience revolve around half a dozen guys who drive around town all day and call in on their cell phones between stops?

I think there are a handful of us at R-I who own the "business process patent" on being a smart A$$ now and then. You do understand that if you keep this up, we will send you a bill for patent royalties. ;D

Nobody seems to have anything really nice or loving to say about this station. Could it be transformed into something that would get "ooohs and aaaahs" from the people who hang out in R-I?

More importantly: what could this station do that would get atta-boy votes from the people who live in the community? Does the community have any better comments about the station than the folks here in the forum?

If Cumulus doesn't care about The Frog's numbers anymore, why spend money improving the signals of the other two?

I don't know that they "don't care"; they just think the changes won't effect the ratings to any large extent. They could be right for all I know.

Citadel started these moves...and when you can't get their talk format in some parts of Knoxville without it being a car radio, there's still a problem

As long as The Frog goes unchallenged, its audience doesn't have any place to go anyway. And Sevierville is about as right wing as you can get. Those people will go out and sit in their cars on their smoke breaks to hear Rush. As long as he's there.
