WNSH-AM 1570 Changes Format AGAIN

L

Every now and then I check out WNSH-AM 1570 in Beverly to see if the station has any advertisers at all (apparently just one lately, the Bill Whodat political campaign), or if the station has changed format (and language) yet again. Well, as of Wednesday morning and noontime, Laura Ingot has been replaced by a financial "advice" show (seemingly devoted to mining companies in Canada and Mexico) and then an ultra-far-right conservative talk show hosted by a guy named Jim (didn't quite catch the last name) who brings something unique to the table: the Obama administration is made up of "dastardly, evil conspirators and traitors" (his exact words). Hmmm...was Alex Jones not available? Who knows what will be on the station this afternoon, or tomorrow?

1570 Beverly is the station that benefited from WPEP Taunton (1570) voluntarily giving up it's license a few years back as I recall. WPEP dated back to 1949.

I tuned in for a moment and heard a bit of the G. Gordon "I could eat a rat if I had to" Liddy
show just before noon, the other day. (I think Liddy was asked once if he could survive
being in prison and he replied, "I could eat a rat if I had to")

It could be worse. They could be running progressive talk. Then Keating would be bankrupt
soon! :)

I thought Alex Jones was far left wing. Charlie Sheen, who has been in the news lately
for getting a bad ice cube and ingesting Bolivian marching powder before trashing a hotel
room, was on Jones show saying he thought the Twin Towers could have been brought down
by controlled demolition...

I had checked NSH's site and saw no changes on it--now just tuned in and it's a male
political host, not Dr Joy Browne. "I never voted for George Bush, I voted for Alan Keyes..."
he just said. He's talking to a British guy--OK, here comes the ad break:

"We'll be right back, stay put"
Jim Sumter Show it says. I think WPEP had run it awhile back?

The NSH site said they were carrying America's Morning News (TRN?), Ingraham (TRN),
Dr Joy Browne, Steve Malzburg (WOR Network) and some local content (it said
"WNSH local with Jack White"; not too long ago they had a show via WDIS called
the Fairness Doctrine, supp. a left/right debate...But apparently that sched is
no longer accurate? Keating...?

As for advertisers the Hear That Ad part of the site also gives two others, Wavepaint Web Design and Christ the Redeemer (prob the former Catholic Church nr Beverly/Danvers line
which had a Sat afternoon show going...the theme song for which was The Byrds'
"The Bells of Rhymney")

I guess the guy's name is Jim Sumpter.. He is on "USA Radio Network" and the guy's website says he is "right about absolutely everything". Modest too! Site claims 50 affiliates
but WNSH not yet listed.

"USA Radio Network"... Does WNSH run "USA-IRN Radio News" at the top of the hour?

I think TRN has always syndicated this program; the huge change for this show behind the scenes was that the bankrupt Washington Times was a major resource for the show; now, it's a 100% TRN production.

I think WNSH does run IRN Radio News, yes
Melanie Morgan was a co-host of America's Morning News but left after she was diagnosed with
thyroid cancer

It would be inaccurate to say WNSH has changed format, since they still seem to be running conservative talk as far as I know...

Completely replacing the lineup of shows you had been airing for a considerable period of time is akin to a format change. On Wednesday, Dr. Joy Brown's show had been replaced by a right-wing issues show; today (Thursday) Joy Brown is back again. Until the November 2nd election, WNSH seems to have TWO advertisers: Bill Whodat, a political candidate and a Hallmark card shop in Amesbury.

I don't know if the "Morning News" show WNSH used to broadcast is still around, but for the last couple of days, WNSH has been running Doug Stephan's show. Two snoozefests on the 15's: Jeff Santos on 1510; Doug Stephan on 1570.

Doug's show may be a freebie (run ads, get show) and run by smaller stations nationwide...I was in VT and heard it on some station at one point. He used to be on 590 when it was talk, right? WMRE 1510 too, I believe
(before "Stay on top, 1510, WMRE" went dark and then re-emerged with various other formats)

Broadcasts from his house in Framingham, hundreds of stations, millions of listeners?

Stephan is heard on WWZN now--M-F 4:00AM to 5:00AM. He had been heard on WRKO in the early AM for several years ending a couple of years ago, I believe. I think he claims 600+ affiliates currently. As for broadcasting from his farm in Framingham, yeah, he does that--but not all of the time. He has several other favorite origination points. IIRC, one is in the L.A. area; another is in England.

That's right, I forgot I'd read he was on WWZN.
In the WMRE days as talk there was Doug and also (the late) Marcia Masters;
there was Bob Katzen late nights, Morgan White Jr on weekends (including a show
on gambling, "Lady Luck") and poss. people like Pat Whitley. Can't remember, but I
know in late 1986 I'd listen to them at work (nights) and by Jan of 87 they were off air
(silent, then new owners/format)--but pretty sure Stephen was on 'MRE.

what kind of low rent show uses other show's callers and then just rants on as if they were on his line on his show?

And Talkers has him in the top 15?

And people wonder why Talkers Magazine is a laughing stock.

I bet he had the Beatles playing in his living room too

>>Using phone calls from other radio shows, Stephan will answer edited phone calls and respond as if the callers are live.

Reminded of how WMWM got a record from David Bowie's record label when he was doing the
"Serious Moonlight" tour and it provided the local DJs the questions and you had David doing the answers! (I think our PD John Caron did the honors). I think they did do that during the
Beatles' day, too

Well, looks like they've now become a high power translator of 0.800-WNNW!
First noticed last night at about 8pm (IIRC, they were still talk @ 4:30pm).

Correctimundo, UK; not only is WNSH simulcasting 800 AM/92.1 FM, but they even carried the WNNW station ID at noon, while not giving a WNSH station ID.
