WNSH FLIPS BACK TO TALK?

I stumbled onto the WNSH website today and noticed that they are now billing themselves as "Red Hot Talk Radio" with a lineup that includes Laura Ingraham, Dr. Joy Browne, and Jerry Doyle. Not terribly different from what they were doing prior to going with the 'ESX simulcast in July sans the focus on the 25-54 female demographic. Anyone know what's going on up at the 30KW daytime powerhouse in Beverly?

I dont know what going on, except to imagine that the people who were leasing the time, couldn't pay their bills.

Once you've flipped format...and then flipped it back, you've already alienated any listeners you might have, and have done damage to the credibility and reputation of your station.

Is Ms. Ingraham on 680 W AH KO ??

Yes, so I don't understand how they're also able to run the show? Maybe they're considered the Cape Cod affiliate? They should try something on there that might actually be able to find a niche audience, like maybe older oldies?

What a shame that 1570 WPEP, in Taunton had to lay down its life. And for what??......A second tier (I'm being kind here)...Boston rimshotter that doesn't bring much to the table in terms of programming.

Sad......just sad.

Well at 3:06 am it's Spanish language music...(heard here about 1 mi from their stick).
The site says "Radio America talk shows" but it's Spanish lang music

If Laura and Jerry are indeed back, hey, Talk Radio Network must not mind having two affiliates for those
shows (and
indeed by day at least the signal's not bad along the coast)

Keating Willcox was a principal at both stations. He lives in Hamilton, so 'PEP was the one to go.

Just shows how consolidation has been ruining radio - even on the micro level!

The Telecommunications Act of 1996...The Clinton Administration's "gift" that keeps on "giving"... :(

Wrong! TelComm 1996 was part of the Republicans' "Contract On America". TelComm 1996 needed Clinton's signature, and Clinton caved in, for a trade for other things he wanted from Republicans.

As to Keating Wilcox living near Beverly, as the reason WNSH got the upgrade and WPEP siappeared.... I don't think that was the reason. WPEP-Taunton upgrading would have likely had serious collision with 1560 in New York and 1590 in Warwick RI., both of which did not present a problem with 1570 in Beverly.

WWRV maybe; WQEW--I doubt it. Try WFTU 1570 Riverhead. WFTU got a day/night power increase when WPEP went away.

WNSH site now says the "red hot talk" format starts Jan 1

I wonder if Principle decided to discontinue the LMA? Another thought is that was always intended to be a short term arrangement. I'm not sure how much ad revenue 'NSH was bringing in during the "Women's Talk Radio" format. Perhaps a five-six month agreement with Principle provided some much needed cash flow while Principle got wider exposure for the Spanish contemporary format during the daytime? Just speculation.

The thing is, I NEVER heard WNSH // WESX, even when 'ESX // 'JDA!
The other afternoon I heard an ID with "AM 5-40" mixed in, so maybe they are carrying Long Island's WLIE programming?

Principle paid real money for WLIE--and did so after station prices had already taken a big hit. I think the price was $11 million and could have been higher still; my memory is fuzzy. WLIE has a killer daytime signal and has a CP to increase day power even further but Stephen Wendell, the guy whose CP for a 540 station in rural NH was pulled after he ran out the clock on building it, is still crying foul.

Principle just paid $7.5 million for KLOK in San Jose (50 kW-D/5 kW-N) and another $5 million for a Class A FM on the Peninsula a little ways north of SJ. Hardly anyone else is buying stations (especially AMs) but Principle hasn't slowed the pace of its acquisitions.

Wrong! Telcomm got the approval of our own Sen. Markey-D(emocrat)....was approved by his committee. And then was signed by Clinton-D(emocrat).

Let's not get into this back and forth....there is plenty of blame to go around.

The biggest problem with that bill is (probably like Health Care, TARP, Stimulus, etc) that most of the congressman voting for it have no idea whats really in it.

We sent some our GM's to Washington in 1996 and they met with most of the delegations from their markets. A good deal of the officials they met with had no idea that it had anything really to do with radio. Most thought it was a Cell Phone and Internet bill.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Mostly for voting for ultra-complex bills that they have no idea whats really in them. They end up voting how they are told to vote.

On boston-radio-interest, WNSH owner Keating Willcox thanked those of us who were checking out
wnsh.com and said that the Jan 1 change is because they have to fulfill the contract (to the
Spanish language folks, I guess). He adds the the morning news and Dr Joy are more "moderate
and hosted by women, while Jerry and Laura are more conservative,
but I still have 9 of 12 hours with a woman as the main announcer. What
other news station can say that?"
