WNSH

Has WNSH started using the new antenna that will be closer to NYC (but lower in height)? So far the signal is still very weak in Southeast Nassau County. If they haven’t started using the new transmitter, does anyone know when this might occur?

Judging by the signal map submitted with the F.C.C. application, the new antenna location will only move the WNSH signal about 15 miles east, toward Brentwood. If the map is reasonably accurate, perhaps it could finally be received in the Norwalk CT area. When passing through there, I cannot pick up any country stations.
Personally, I like Nash Nights Live. But with co-host Shawn Parr leaving at the end of the month, I hope Elaina can carry the show on her own.

When are they going to get rid of Nash nights live?

Is there some other syndicated night show that you prefer? I would not expect there to be a live voice instead...and remember...live and local does not necessarily mean better. I don't think that Nash Nights Live is that bad.

A voicetracked evening show tailored for WNSH would be an improvement over Nash Nights Live.

BTW, am I the only one who is extremely skeptical about Nash Nights Live even being "live" ? It very much sounds like a prerecorded show to me. At least Shawn Parr was fired; that guy was boring and had a very artificial sounding delivery.

I think we are drifting away from the original topic which is ... does anyone have information as to when the new WNSH antenna (the one that might improve reception on Long Island) will possibly be online. It is so hard to receive them until you get back into Central or Western Nassau County. Then it’s easier to get them and I can often obtain an HD signal too. I am in Massapequa Park and I can get them at home as I have a directional FM antenna in my attic but at times the signal drops below my receiver’s Stereo and Mute threshold.

What we know is the application to move has been made with the FCC. There are engineering studies that have to be done to satisfy the legal requirements. Then there is usually a testing period. To the best of my knowledge, they haven't entered the testing phase yet. However, I believe an antenna has been placed on the tower, and the testing phase should come next.

WMAS-FM has to install a directional antenna in order to accommodate the WNSH application. One could assume that WNSH can't do anything further until the work at WMAS-FM is completed.

If it's that important to you, why don't you stream it online, play it on Amazon Alexa or Google home, use Bluetooth, Apple Carplay or Android Auto in your car to stream it from your phone, etc? It's not 1980 any more.

Besides, WNSH has always been a New Jersey station pretending to be a New York City station. The signal sucks in Manhattan, it sucks in Long Island, it probably sucks in all the boroughs except Staten Island which is likely where most of the country music fans in NYC live anyway. And it will continue to be like that even after the antenna move.

However, if you're in the country music life group, the station has a presence in Manhattan and Long Island in terms of marketing and promotion. If you attend a concert at the Barklay's Center, you'll see their banner. So a radio station is more than just a signal. It can be a community.

Both 94.7's are owned by the same company. All of this paperwork with the FCC is merely a preliminary gesture, the result of which will be inevitable.

Winner : WNSH.
Loser : WMAS-FM.

Caveat: I worked at WMAS-FM sometime long ago. It (and others) was a freshly-minted AoR station called WHVY at the time. Its signal got listeners from the New Haven market area. Don't be misled by recent history re-writes. WDRC, WHCN and WCCC-FM Hartford were the main competitors for us younger pup DJ's. But the big-signal WPLR also was in that mix.

But there will be long terms implications that will outlast the current ownership, as was the case with WOWO and WLIB. The FCC will take all the time it wants.

You're saying random stuff up just to hear yourself talk.

The applications have been approved, and that has been the status since mid-summer. The ball is in Entercom's court to construct the permitted facilities.

Both stations were co-owned prior to Entercom's ownership. Both were owned by Cumulus.

Cumulus did not own them. It was when Inner City, the owner of WLIB, pruchased WOWO, that the Ft. Wayne station changed power and pattern so WLIB could go fulltime. That was in 1994, IIRC.
