WNSH

The old product advertising of "back by popular demand" always was a gimmick. It was simply marketers' desire to extract the last drops of water from the well.

When SiriusXM says a certain artist's pop-up channel is "back by popular demand" for another brief run, it means said artist's management or label has made out another large check to SiriusXM. Billy Joel's channel is "back by popular demand" for the seventh or eighth time right now. I know the old has-been is still a musical god out on Long Island where so many of the execs live, but the idea that every time the channel is removed, a nation of subscribers starts begging for its return is not believable.

Good question. Wouldn't surprise me if capital investment spending for that initiative has been slashed from the budget for 2020 in view of current goings-on.

Cumulus pulled the plug on the "Nash" brand from a national syndication standpoint some time ago. I think the new guard in charge of Cumulus' country programming realized the brand had developed a somewhat toxic reputation. The national morning show, evening show and overnight show are now considered Westwood One products and should be easier to syndicate to non-Cumulus owned stations. Every on-air mention of "Nash" has been abolished. Thank goodness. The stupid "Powered by Nash!" mantra that used to constantly display on RDS or referenced in TOH IDs likely had little to zero connotation to the common listener.

WNSH, of course, was considered one of two flagship stations for Nash. The other? 103.3 WKDF in Nashville. Guess what they did late last week? That's right -- they, too, have completely scrubbed the "Nash" identity!

I'm a little surprised 95.5 in Nashville continues to carry the banner (as "Nash Icon").

They are the only Nash-branded station left in a Top 50 market, if I'm not mistaken. Even in the Top 100 markets, I think there are no more than 3 or 4 such stations.

Nash was a bad idea from the beginning. Too much national branding not enough local branding and local djs. Even iHeart does some local things with the majority of their stations.

Not to mention that the most effective branding of all for a country station is "Country." Country music fans are proud of the music and the lifestyle it embodies. "Nash" only hints at Nashville, which is the home of country music, but doesn't have the gut-level connection with fans that the magic word "Country" does.

Hi All .. the original post was if WNSH has moved it’s antenna yet as there has been no signal improvement on Long Island. Does anyone have any information as to when the antenna move will occur?

legit

and remember...live and local does not necessarily mean better.

As much as it hurts to admit, this is true.

Radio is a passion, and that passion is a business.
If you were to present two shows,
a national success... or a local broadca....

ads, clients already know the name of the national brand.

With regard to the question in the OP concerning the move of the the WNSH signal closer to New York- Before this can happen, co-owned short-spaced WMAS 94.7 in CT needs to shift their signal to a directional pattern, to avoid interference. Not sure whether this has been done yet.

Speaking of WNSH, today they are running an announcement that "The boss," has given all the on-air personalities the day off. While probably not a big deal, this does seem odd. Perhaps they are adjusting things for their return to the studio, after weeks of broadcasting from their homes?

Or it could be furlough.

It never occurred to me before but Nash rhymes with Flash. On "The Flash", the character Nash (the first person I think of when I hear the name) accidentally opened up a portal that came close to ending the world and all universes. It took characters from five different CW series to stop everything from being destroyed.

As for the magic word "country", it doesn't seem to refer to anything either. Some of us think of country music as something different from what the word has referred to in recent years.

I LOVE IT!!! Great post! :)

The WMAS transmitter is actually located in MA. Here are the 2 coverage maps that show the shift in signal pattern.
