WNTD-950

This morning WNTD came in weak but clear here in West Allis, Wis., and I was wondering if they raised their daytime power to 5kw.

I don't see any past or current Apps/CPs for 5 KW Day.

There may have been a very intial attempt back in late 2001, but nothing was ever done.

Shouldn't be that hard in West Allis. I get it rock solid here in Kenosha. I tried hearing WCLB when I was in West Allis last month and indeed heard a mix of both.

SOMETHING is stopping that expansion.

They were a 1kw daytimer w/xmtr at the Uniion Stockyards and studio in the LaSalle-Waker building since the 1920's as WAAF (jazz in the 50's/60's w/Marty Faye, Dadadio Daylie, Jesse Owens and Jerry Leighton), then WGRT in the 70's (Ralph Atlass owner w/top 40 rock) then a few other incarnatiions including WJPC (Johnson Publishing) soul music.

To this day, WNTD AM950 Chicago broadcasts 1kw ND from 16th & Western on top of the Midland Building during daytime hours, then at night, they switch to their 6 tower array in Burnham IL at what is approximately the 14000 block east of Torrence Avenue at 5kw. Their night signal is mainly aimed north and south to protect WSBT 960 in South Bend. I hear WNTD better at night than during the day, due to primary contour covering Gary and much of Lake County Indiana, while I deal with secondary contour over most of Lake County Indiana. I don't know if Multicultural has ever thought of putting in an application to increase their daytime power, but it would have to go directional to protect WSBT South Bend, like it does at night. I don't know if the night site is suitable for daytime use, or if additional towers would have to be used, or if a totally different site would have to be used for daytime use, if WNTD were to increase their daytime power.
