WNTD.

Okay, this one is confusing. Robert Feder reported this week that the new owners of WNTD plan to run the Catholic network, Relevant Radio, during the day, starting at 6:00 A.M. Then, after 6:00 P.M., they would go to Spanish programming. If anything, I would think that the Spanish programming would make more sense during the day, and Relevant Radio at night, as RR already runs on 820, 930, and 1270 during the day, and all but 820 at night, with 820 being the strongest signal. So, how does this move make any sense?

WNTD 950 will replace 820. What happens next on 820 will be interesting. My guess is 850 programming moves to 820. 850?, maybe three cows radio?

I think they should move aar to 820 for the better signal that would make sense for the audiance they are trying to attract
i personally think Air America is like nails on a chalkboard but from a buisness standpoint it would make sense and then they
should return the WAIT calls to 850 and put on a ez hits nostalgia format like they used to have.

I know this is a little off topic but does anyone know what happened to there nightime signal when they were WJPC rap radio
when they were still owned by Johnson publishing company? They were still using the same site in Burnham that they use now
at 5kw but sometime around 1993 they changed the pattern and it did not come in cleary anymore in the Oak Lawn or Evergreen
Park area. Then they stayed the same through the CC WEJM time until they were sold to Sporting News when the signal changed
again, it got a little better but never back to clear signal that sounded exactly the same as their 1kw daytime signal they had
for years as WJPC.

WNTD's daytime site has been on the Midland Building at 15th & Western Ave. for many years, and operates at 1kw on 1 tower. The site in Burnham was added many years ago, and only serves as their night site, operating at 5kw on 6 towers. I don't see why they don't increase their daytime power. If no additional work needs to be done at the Burnham site; why not move the daytime operations to the Burnham site? I believe it can be done. As for Sporting News Radio; they brokered time on WNTD, or Sporting News Radio would still be on WNTD today if they owned them.

Relevant radio was on three channels during afternoon drive home today. 930,950, 820.

I don't know how all this works out with the FCC, since in NW Indiana, 950 & 1270 have a lot of overlap coverage, and even more so when 950 switches to the nighttime site. Even 820 completely overlaps with 1270. While there's different ownerships between 820 & 1270, the programming is still the same.

Too bad 820 doesn' t have a Spanish format during daylight hours. WAIT has a good signal in Milwaukee, Wis.

The reason they have not moved to the nightime site during the day is because there signal is going farther on 1,000 watts non-
directional than there current 5,000 directional signal at night plus there daytime tower on 15th and Western penetrates the
downtown area better due to the proximity of the tower than The Burnham site would. If your ever downtown with a simple
walkman type radio AM 950 and AM 820 have the best signal downtown, much better than any of the 50,000 watt sticks located
way out in the burbs.

Nosstalgia Adult Standards!!! OH YEA!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

I was just checking out the Relevant Radio Chicago page, which indicated that their lease is up with 820 on November 25th. They state that although they are leasing time on 950, they are hopeing to purchase that station down the line.

On the car radio, WBBM goes in & out, and sometimes gets skywave interference along Lakeshore Drive, driving over a bridge near Navy Pier. I haven't tried any other 50kw AM station, except for WYLL, and I got occasional skywave interference from KSL in portions of Chicago at night. I haven't tried listening to WYLL during the daytime near Chicago, but heard that WYLL comes in better during the day at the Park Ridge site. For me, when I go to Chicago, it's usually at night.

I assume Newsweb still owns it, right?

Sounds like they're looking to do their own thing with it. Moving WCPT, perhaps?
