WNTN at night

I hate to repeat questions, but I’m wondering if WNTN uses their 3 watts from Cambridge at night or just sign off? If they do, what runs on there? I’m not able to check.

Seems like the broadcast day begins at 7AM and ends at sunset when the stream faded into automated Greek Music for the Grecian Echoes website.

Shows that would normally end at a later time wind up ending at sign off time in winter months, So I’m guessing they just sign off at sunset since 3 watts does not get much.

Hoping to hear them over the air again sometime. It’s been over 20 years since I was in the area.

That’s the old site. When they were still broadcasting from Auburndale they ran 24 Hours, mostly replays and UN Radio after hours.

New website is here. The stream is always up, but I’m not sure whether the programming on the stream actually runs on the air after sign off.

I have been hearing them broadcasting all night lately. The three watts is actually a solid signal here in Somerville.

The programming I've heard has been Greek music. It's also overmodulating on the night signal and a bit distorted. I don't know why, because they don't overmodulate on the daytime signal.

They overmodulated at night before, when it was in Newton. Same setting I guess. Probably helps coverage to some extent.

Thanks for clarifying this.

It should be adjusted though, the distortion sounds unpleasant, so even if it may help coverage, it will turn people off from listening (I think it's also technically FCC illegal).

It shouldn't lose coverage if the modulation is set right at, but not exceeding, the legal peak before distortion.

Isn't that known as old fashion, HEAVY (read: "make your ears bleed") AM style compression? P=)
A good example of such being Nashua's 900-WGHM.
