WNTY's building for sale

Driving down Old Turnpike Road in Southington yesterday and I noticed a "for sale" sign in front of the WNTY Building.

Several questions popped into my head.

1. Will the building be leased back to Full Power Radio? Seems like that would be odd, but stranger things have happened.

2. If the radio station isn't going to be using that building any more, where will the Italian show originate from? Will it now originate at the Full Power Radio complex on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield?

3. Who would want to buy a building with a couple radio towers in the back of the property?

4. Who would want to buy a building where you can't drink the water? When I was involved with this station 2002-2004 the water wasn't safe to drink. It's contaminated from the Superfund site across the street, unless that has changed in the 19 years since I first stepped foot in that building.

Is it actually being done in the studio at the old building or from the home of its host, as so many weekly specialty shows have been done at stations small and large (including satellite radio) since the pandemic started?

As a lifelong lover of Radio, I'd like to buy the building. I worked there in the early 80's. No computers. Carts & 45's only. George Stevens was the owner, & his lovely wife, Norma, was the receptionist. Winty was the station cat. I worked with Tom Chute. Tom Cawett was the CE. The building is as solid as a rock. The front office & reception area would make a nice living room. The Control Studio has a nice picture window. The News Booth, Xmtr Room & Production Room could be made into bedrooms & a kitchen. I'd love to look outside & see two radio towers in the back. Awesome. If I won the lottery, I'd buy a station. But, if I buy the building, the next best thing is when people ask "Where do you live?", & my answer is, "A Radio Station!"

This did happen in Farmington, ME - WKTJ-FM moved from their purpose-built (1959) building outside of town into a downtown facility around 10 years ago and the old facility became a residence. My wife worked at the station in the 1970s and 80s and she stayed in touch.

Aren't those towers still live, with the AM portion of the Kool Oldies format? If another business buys the site, will there still be an AM component to the station? There legally has to be, since the FM is only a low-power translator ancillary to the main AM, WNTY.

There is a For Sale sign at the edge of the property, and the sign say Real Estate Only. So I’m guessing only the land in front of the building is for sale.
