Friday May 22. The BA shredding continues.

 What else can you say that hasn't been said already? Many thanks to the original pioneer (IMO) of New Age and contemporary jazz on radio. WNUA and KKSF may be gone, but will NEVER be forgotten for what they did for this genre and its loyal listeners.

  DANG! I thought at least they'd give us listeners (and remaining staff at WNUA) to get ready for this change before June. EVIL! It's all about the $$$. Glad I kept on checking the news on this site and a few others. Anyone think that this format will ever have a renaissance?

Interesting to read the Phoenix posts because they believe that KYOT is also toast. I would take the bet that both (KYOT and WNUA) are gone by Monday.

I heard about Phoenix, very sad.

I was thinking this morning "who's still doing the format in a large market?" KYOT is hanging on by a thread according to the Phoenix board. Does that leave San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Cleveland and Detroit as the only big boys still on the radar? Denver is on the network and a small signal. Is that it? OMG! I'm getting older but please tell me there are more!

Tampa and Orlando still around playing Prince with a sprinkling of contemporary jazz?

And the question is, which of those remaining markets has the combination of a decent product, lifestyle, and listenership that can weather this typhoon? My money is on KIFM ultimately being the last man standing.

Now when I visit my wife's family in Gary, I WON'T have anything to listen to.

Damn shame because I loved WNUA

Thanks Nock for the FLA reminder. Tampa is big signal but on the network. They will go sooner than later. I think Phoenix will also go. If not this weekend then very shortly. WLOQ is doing their thing and have their niche. I think San Diego and Orlando will hang. Seattle and Cleveland might. Good ownership at both. Detroit and Los Angeles are a toss up. Then it will be down to the other guys who carry the network. It will be interesting to see what it does on that level.

Geeziz...I'm away from my computer for a few days, and all hell breaks loose!

None of this is really surprising, although it' still hard to take nonetheless ...not much more for me to add beyond what has already been said by all of you fellow SJ loyalists who are much smarter than myself!!

I would expect the Milwaukee BA clone to also die shortly, given its dreadful ratings and equally dreadful product. ;)

Orlando is already about 50% A/C and Oldies and moving more in that direction every day. They could probably get down to 25 or even 10% instrumental and still call themselves "smooth jazz" though because over the last 10 years Smooth Jazz has been re-imaged to actually mean Phil Collins and Linda Ronstadt.
