WNUA To Flip To Country?

How many country stations have worked against US99 and failed? Only one i can think of was Kicks Country 947.

HOW CONFUSING CAN IT GET FOR RATINGS IF COUNTRY WAS ON 995 AND 955!! WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

95.5 would NEVER recover the ratings they have currently if they went country. I'd compare it to a WJMK move.

I thought that WNUA is the middle-ground between V103 and LiteFM. It would be strange for them to "shake up" the conglomerate and try country. WGCI V103 WNUA and 1390 compliment each other for cross-advertising. A country format would do what for them billing wise, unless simply cross-advertise exclusively with WLIT. If i remmeber right, WNUA has some great solid ratings close to V103, they would never recover.

It is strange that they would drop smooth jazz, but lots of things in radio today are strange.

If WNUA drops Smooth Jazz, it's curtains for KTWV in LA and possibly even KWJZ in Seattle. Although the West Coast is the last outpost where Smooth Jazz still has a loyal fan base, "yuppie elevator music" in general these days isn't cool anymore......

I wonder when we'll know about WNUA?

It would be strange! Oh gosh, I hope they don't flip. WNUA's been with me and mom and my sis forever! My late father got me started on that station after WJJD went defunct, and I was cruising the dial to listen to WLIT and FM100 and he decided to change the dial to WNUA one night.
Anyway it would be strange because:

1. We already have a format for Country=US99
2. Smooth Jazz, I thought this format was doing well here in Chi-town, LA and Seattle.
3. Why get rid of this format?

And I've always wanted to go to a Brunch, but haven't yet, STILL. I still want to go with my mom. See what that's like.

Whenever a format flip is rumored in Chicago...the first guess everyone has is that the station is going "Country". As far as my feeble mind can remember only one station has tried to compete with US-99 in the past 5-10 years, and they didn't last very long. If WNUA is changing, look for a low overhead, 25-54 Female format that Clear Channel already has in place in another market (NYC or LA).

Or they could go Heavy Metal };>)

Polka would be unique on FM.

You're right about the West Coast and the Smooth Jazz fan base....just recently, KIFM, the smooth jazz station in San Diego, just became #1 12+ in the market, and they are also #1 in the money demo as well.

But why would they flip to country? Is US-99 in such an enviable yet vulnerable spot? And why abandon the current format, unless the actual amount it bills belies its middling position in the ratings? Could this have anything to do with PPM? (I really don't know, I'm carelessly asking that question)

Yeah it wouldn't make sense, seeing as WNUA rakes in the $$ each year, with promotional things like concerts, Sunday Brunch, etc. etc.

Smooth Jazz KKSF in san francisco just switched to classic hits, so a format change to WNUA might come soon

I like the idea of Energy 95.5. Chicago could support a station like that.

Maybe CC sprung into action as soon as they found out that 87.7 wasn't going to become a dance "station"...
