It would be a good idea for Now to claim to play all-Christmas till Christmas. When B101 flips to Christmas this week, Now should flip back to AC and grab the B101 listeners who hate Christmas music.

Smartest post on this thread I've seen yet and I am a contributor! I wanted be surprised if it plays out that way. Force an early switch on WBEB and then make an on-air apology on NOW for a wrong decision and return to the A/C hill until Christmas Eve.

I bet this would never happen, but what if OGL went Christmas instead of B? What if a station did this that never did before, one that's not in the AC format?
Then how does B and Now react? That would certainly make things interesting.

It's kind of like doing a fake field goal. The other team defends against a field goal, while your team gets a potential touchdown, or the ball gets turned over on downs.

No matter how things play out with NOW and the other stations in Philly, B WILL go Christmas. It is a tradition that has benefited the radio station for many years. WBEB owns the market's A/C and Christmas music station hills.

Agreed that B101 will definitely go all-Christmas. (I mean, they kinda have to since they've been advertising it on-air and on their website.) But if 97.5 along with WISX and/or WOGL are already on it, it would surely make more sense for B101 to stay with AC as long as possible. If they're going to be the the third (or fourth!) station jumping on the format, I wouldn't blame them if they decided not to flip til December 22. (In fact, I'd actually love for them to leave it to CBS and Clear Channel!)

Oh I know B101 would go all christmas, but i'm just wondering. If someone else jumped on it before they did, what would they do to keep the listeners? Then again, so many offices and everyware else have on 101.1, that they may not need to do anything else. Just do what they've always done!

True. They have that enormous existing audience by default. They'll just be adding onto it like they always do, which is (IMHO) why they get such great results with such a lackluster version of the all-Christmas format.

The only way another station could hurt them even the tiniest bit would be to go all-Christmas much, much earlier than B101 and get some good marketing up and word-of-mouth going on.
