WNVR (1030 Near Chicago)

According to Tom Taylor, WNVR-AM 1030 in Vernon Hills, IL, just west of Chicago, has received the ok to boost nighttime power. It's only fair: the Boston area has an unlistenable-at-night AM station on 890...why shouldn't they have an unlistenable-at-night AM on 1030? Now WBZ pumps out its 50K signal through a directional array that boosts its output WNW. Poor WLS is NDA and sends a puny 50K signal here, but enough to swamp WAMG if you're a short distance away. Still, I'm sure some WBZ hosts will claim coverage to 38 states at night anyway. Hey, isn't WNVR physically close to WMVP-AM 1000?

As alluded to in another thread, I live about two miles from WNVR's stick and have no problem whatsoever getting WBZ . On top of that, WNVR isn't on all night. WNVR's nighttime pattern is/will be basically north-south from a site located 44 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Result: There is/will be no trace of WNVR in or anywhere near the city itself. The effective nighttime range of WNVR to the east is/will be about 5 miles....in an area with good ground conductivity. Really pathetic.

I can actually relate to that entirely: lived a town over from WNVR's COL a few years ago, and got WBZ very clearly almost every night I checked.

There's never any trace of WNVR nighttime in their COL. Vernon Hills, IL is about twenty miles east of the stick(s) and the signal is long gone by then.

BTW, as for the proximity of WNVR to WMVP....they're about 30-35 miles apart. As a real-world practical matter, each is a non-issue for the other.
