WNWK

In looking at some FCC info, its reported that WNWK is off the air due to loosing their antenna site (the cell tower), but has an application pening for a site at the old location they were using prior to going on the cell tower (the farm). Can you verify this Jim or Mike?

WNWK has a agreement with Salem to go dark for good. The owner has purchased 1600 AM in Dover and will broadcast the Spanish sometime in Jan. 2012.

I have heard nothing new on this story, Dave. They are on the air at this moment. They do have a deal to go dark, allowing 1260 in D.C. to proceed with a power increase. The last I heard about the Dover deal is that it fell through because funding could not be found.

Hopefully, the deal to close down 1260 Newark had a clause to void the deal if the 1600 Dover deal did not go through.

Salem has received the CP from the FCC and now 1260 will have to go dark. The deal with the Dover station is complete and the new owner will make on-air changes in late Jan. 2012. The Dover deal was not dead just put on hold until Salem was granted a CP for 1260 in DC.

In looking at the paper work from the FCC files, the application that WNWK has for their 'new' site is a 2 tower system with nulls toward DC and Trenton with 250 watts day and 10 watts night. The paperwork sort of drops the hint that a new agreement was reached with Salem so that WNWK wouldn't have to go off but that is yet to be seen. If these people think 1600 Dover will reach Wilmington, I'd like to sell them a bridge in Brooklyn!

I HAVE heard 1600 in Newark. But that is because I'm a radio geek, know its there, and I'm listening for it. Hear it in Wilmington? NO WAY!

In the New Castle area on my digital AM radio, no 1600, but 1590's Mexican format comes in with a solid signal. Is it possible jhguthlac you were hearing 1590 bleeding over onto 1600 as I found on my radio, faintly, but the exact same song. But I agree, no way 1600's signal is getting to Wilmington, if for no other reason the strong signal coming from Chester's 1590.

Mike, This reception was several years ago. So I know it was 1600-Dover (whatever the call letters of the month were!).

As of today (1/1/12) WWRC-1260 is now up on their new day power/pattern. Their signal is now listenable where it was barely there before, south of York. Whats happening with WNWK now?

WNWK is stronger out in my area today. Hmmm? Have they also made a move?

This morning WJSS 1330 Havre de Grace, MD is simulcasting the Spanish language format from WNWK. WJSS had been running a Black gospel format but has been off the air for the past few days. I wonder if this simulcast is an early indication that WNWK really is planning to shut down and that the format from 1260 will be moving up the dial to 1330.

Hmmm. WNWK moving to 1330 is a reasonable possility. 1330 still has a good signal in New Castle County.

I was afternoon drive at the old WNRK back in 1970 time frame, and I still have a soft spot in my heart for the ole 1260. Our VP of Broadcasting, who was married to the owner and GM, was also our secretary who typed the on-air logs. She was so incompetent as a typist that 99% of the time we worked for "W-R-N-K". We got quite a kick out of her abilities! There's more to the story but it gets racier!

Today (1/16) WNWK is audible in the null of WWRC on 1260, same programming as on 1330. Did WNWK get up on their new antenna system? The signal was no where to be found before. I'm south of York, PA.
