WNWR in HD?

There would be enough interference to block Disney New York at 1560, possibly even 1570 in Doyelstown. Oh, and don't forget the lower end, hashing to 1510 in Salem.

What a waste this HD thing is. Mostly anyone who would actually spend extra money to hear radio stations would either buy satellite radio or has already done so.

At least WNWR would be able to claim its entire broadcast day was in "HD Radio", something most AM stations paying iBiquity royalty rights cannot do at the present time. :)

Any horrible hash from 1540 would certainly negate much of the upgrades done at West Chester's WCHE (1520), which recently launched a revolutionary rock-on-AM format of its own. It's a challenge, but with some effort I can hear the station in King of Prussia. Should the day come when WNWR goes with "HD", WCHE will immediately cease to exist on my local dial. (The same thing happened for many who enjoyed WBCB once WDAS implemented this "technology".)

I heard WCHE in Newark Delaware today on my way home from the beach. It wasn't the greatest signal, but I could hear Soul Coughing's "Super Bon Bon"

No AM radio station should even consider going to HD. Try online streaming first, and see what demad you have there.

Again, people conclude "what a waste this HD thing is"...dismissing ALL HD technology because they have a problem with the freakin' AM system. FM works GREAT, thank you very much!

No, Mike the FM version of the flawed "iNiquity" system does not work great. In fact, it doesn't work very well at all.

The alliance members know what they're doing in running mostly automated junk on their "HD-2" streams, because there's no back-up, as there is for "HD-1" (which duplicates the analog program). You may not notice when the main progam has to fall back on the analog signal because the receiver can't "copy" the fragile digital signal (to use a Ham term), but when there's no analog to fall back on, you'll notice!

And while the problems with adjacencies aren't nearly as bad as on the AM system, they're far from trivial. This is especially the case in the reserved (88-92) portion of the band. With a high quality portable, as well as with a decent car radio, I can get weak but signals on every channel -- except where the I-BUZZ from the major local stations makes it impossible to get their their adjacents.

This matters to me only because there is notheing -- NOTHING -- on local non-comradio that I want to hear at night -- and nothing I want to hear on any of the local commercial stations at any time.

I listen to NPR's Morning Edition and All Thhings Considered, but only occasionally to any of their other news-talk-info stuff.. Temple (WRTI) plays classical music during the day, but jazz at night. About half the time I can get acceptable mono from WWFM's Cape May station, WWCJ (both 89.1), but if New Jersey Network (NJN) ever installsI-BUZZ on their Bridgeton, NJ Class A (89.3), that'll be the end of that, since Bridgeton almost in a direct path from here to Cape May. (Probably the only good thing about NJ's current budget crisis is that it will make it impossible for NJN to go I-BUZZ!)

BTW, I've previously seen your posts only on the "HD Radio" board. What brings you to the Philly board? Are you using the search box to find places where you can go to defend Ibiquity's Rube Goldberg approach to digital radio?

It would be cool! We'd really get to hear "the brokered one" speaking out of both sides of his mouth in "beeeuuuti-ful" iBiquity AM Stereo. WooHoo!

And think of the syndication potential! Why, he'd end up with TWICE as many stations than he currently has! One for EACH channel! (Left or Right ... take your pick!)
