WNWR on at night?

Last evening about 10PM I heard Chinese-oriented programming on 1540. Anyone else hear it? I'm wondering if WNWR never shut off their transmitter. I would doubt that it was either KXEL or WPTR.

Rene',
That probably was CHIN Toronto. They sometimes dominate at night after WNWR signs off. Most nights it's a jumble, with WDCD and KXEL going at it.

I'm sure you're right, Dave. I did not realize that there was a Chinese station on the frequency out of Toronto. I thought it was strange because I had never heard WNWR on at night, at least not since the night system was removed.

And, of course, I meant WDCD, not WPTR. It was WPTR when I worked there in the 70s, so I guess it will always be "WPTR" in my rapidly aging brain. Hard to change old habits ::)

If CHIN was audible in Philadelphia, would that mean they were running day pattern/power at night? CHIN should be protecting KXEL's 0.5 mV/m 50% skywave over US territory. I don't know whether KXEL's protected skywave contour extends over Philadelphia, but it might do so.

CHIN is certainly frequently heard down here in Nashville.

CHIN was once a daytimer like WNWR. But over the years, they have full-time authority, one of the reasons is that their further away from the Bahamas and there's nothing up there to the north of them. They would be heard in Philly a few minutes after sign off from 1540. You would hear them signing off as well. Then KXEL would come in for an hour until their antenna switch , and then Albany , NY would dominate for the evening.

I too have been hearing this the past few nights while attempting to pull in Phil Hendrie on 'KB. Sounds like the exact same China Radio programming 1540 has been running of late. Signal is unusually strong, and seemed to pop up out of nowhere in the past week.

The signal got noticeably stronger Saturday night as I drove through Conshohocken toward Ridge Pike. Had it not been three in the morning and if I cared a little more I'd have driven another ten minutes toward Roxborough to confirm if indeed it was 'PGR. But I was getting tired, so I figured I'd be lazy and just check here to see if anyone else noticed it.
