This story is much ado about nothing. Public radio stations around the country have been laying off staff for the same reason all year. WBUR in Boston laid off a similar number of people last fall. Minnesota Public Radio laid off a bunch and canceled several shows including the nationally syndicated "Live From Here" show, the successor to Prairie Home Companion. It's all related to the pandemic. It's not unusual for laid off employees to be offered their jobs back once the financial situation improves.
The announced cuts come less than a week after the station, whose broadcast license is owned by Boston University, reached its first, tentative collective bargaining agreement with a union that includes reporters and producers.
