WNYF Television-FOX Watertown

Straying away from the terminally dull saga of Rochester television...does anyone know if WNYF (Fox Watertown) has any intention to boost its LP signal on Channel 28? While the cable carriage is strong in the North Country...the off air signal does not reach far outside of the inner cities of Watertown and Massena.

There are no more full-power channels allocated to the North Country, but that doesn't matter - WNYF already has full OTA coverage of the area, on WWNY-DT's 7.2 subchannel.

Yes, that's DTV, not analog, but 2009 is right around the corner, and it's time to start thinking digital, not analog.

(When the tropospheric ducting is up, I have no trouble at all seeing WWNY-DT, complete with the Fox subchannel, all the way down here in Rochester.)

Same situation here, where LPTV FOX affiliate "WYFX FOX 17/62"/Youngstown OH (WYFX-LP 62 Youngstown/WFXI-CA 17 Mercer PA) is carried as a subchannel on sister WKBN-DT's new signal.

It's the most powerful DT in the market, and I have little trouble getting it here in Akron with an amplified indoor antenna.

Thanks for the DT tip. We have a camp in the area and WWNY comes in very well...but the TV is "outmodish". Better remedy that...

FYI..to Scott. The tropo FM is wonderful up there...I get 100.5 and 97.9 out of Rochester along with Channels 8 and 10.

post-transition, WNYF-D will be on channel 35 with 15kW from the exisiting WWNY-DT antenna, and will stay on 7.2 when WWNY-DT reverts to channel 7 from the top mounted antenna, because channel 35 has a null to the north (whcih generally precludes its reception up here in Ottawa, even with 750kW). See the WWNY-TV PD's blog at http://dtvtransition.blogspot.com/
