WNYH 740 - from Korean Programming to Spanish Christian Programming?

For a while now WNHY 740 AM has been running Korean Programming. I can not pull them in where I am. Now today I happened to be scanning the AM band a caught the Spanish Christian Network Radio Cantico Nuevo on AM 990 out of the Hartford area. I happened to catch their new legal ID.

WJDM 1530 AM Elizabeth, New Jersey
WNYH 740 AM Huntington, New York
and WXCT 990 AM Southington, Connecticut.

Can someone confirm whether or not WNYH is running Spanish Christian programming now?

Yes, WNYH is indeed carrying Radio Cantico, instead of the Korean programming it had previously aired. I checked it out this morning. I do not know though whether this is their programming for the entire day.
WNYH has a pretty good signal. So I would say this is quite a gain for Radio Cantico, as long as they can afford to lease the time.

I still wanna know where Pastor Selgado is getting the money to do this. A friend of mine spoke to Felix Perez head of Davidson Media Group last year and he told my friend that Pastor's Selgado's check was always late - sometimes as much as two weeks late for WXCT 990. Mr. Perez told my friend as long as the Pastor's check doesn't bounce he'll continue to let Cantico Nuevo air on WXCT 990.

As for 740 I picked them up in the parking lot of the Shoprite in Southington, Connecitcut. Crystal clear. Oh joy. Now I can pick up 2 stations in Southington running the same non-ingles programming - 740 y 990.

No-ingles programming is OK with me. What's annoying is "no ingles evangelical religous" programming coupled with bad production values (because a "brother from the church" volunteers to run board instead of a proper operator.)

Speaking of 740...the other day i was leaving Stop and Shop parking lot in Sayville and on back of a sign was a WGSM bumper sticker..

Who said bumper sticker promos don't work.

I hear them ID now with the multiple stations but last year I could not hear an ID in months. Sign off...never an ID...

Now ? I did enjoy CFZM at night with their oldies at times simply because it was 'different'.

Now ?? Korean yap/yap constant.

Their night POWER overloading Connecticut at night ?

Their night POWER overloading Connecticut at night ?

Hit AM 74 on the car radio tonight while driving on the L-I-E --- at around midnight. What do I hear? Distorted Spanish religous music (more like cats screaming). Station was operating in day mode - hearing them clear out to Riverhead, hashing it up with that station out of Toronto.

Where's the FCC when you need them? Busy chasing down some rinky-dink FM pirate in Brooklyn? ::) ::)

??? CFZM 740 a little before my time with it's oldies oldies but at least it's music on AM.

No longer because 740 Long Island took over at night ?

I'll have to look up that night 'chart' again.

I'm in Southern Connecticut and their daytime signal would give anybody a migraine but that is 'daytime'.

--and it has nothing to do with the content except the Korean yap yap..well....(Spanish at night ?)

WLIE 540 for a long time was terribly excessive here at nights and that included way up into Northern Connecticut. Good Frequency. What happened about a year or so ago ? Now their signal is 'listenable' in Southern Connecticut 'nights' but nowhere near the old strength.

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

I'm getting sick of this station. It was 25kw (???) over salt water days that never id'd for months.

Now it's nightime and complete knocks out CFZM in Connecticut.

Who cares ? Maybe CFZM does (?)

I'm in SW Connecticut . Day WNYH I tried to record an ID for months. (just the hobby of recording airchecks)

ok..25kw over salt water..

I actually complained to the FCC only to get the reply :: not within our jurisdiction.. (radio)

I'm not a complainer and hear odd stuff all the times and not gonna snibble to anybody.

Now it seems WNYH is on at nights. 18 watts ? is gonna cover Connecticut ? Look at the charts. It should not even reach here for the most part.

CFZM plays oldies some nights and has a potent signal into here. I'm not an oldies freak but it's just 'music on AM'.

-- but no more...WNYH ground wave wipes them out complete...

I've tuned the dial all over Connecticut at nights and same thing. CFZM 'wiped out'.

ya know...kinda sick of some foreign language station yap yap yap

Many of the Spanish stations sign on/off when they desire and who knows what power. Many care less about ID's.

hmmm what is somebody at 990 gonna do about it. ? o..only if it's 990...

Whomever is LMAing 990 in Southington, CT for now is playing by the rules. It's another Spanish language religious outfit, but I don't understand enough Spanish (I only know a few words or phrases here and there) to understand the name of the station, website, or phone number. I can pick up words like "Largest Christian Radio Network", "President Obama", and I know that the network they're running is from Long Island. They're running dual IDs - in both English and Spanish.

Refresh my brain. beep beep beep

They do now ID but it's a multiple ID including now WJDY in New Jersey. (?)

Prior to that combination I tried to hear an ID all summer into fall and I think I caught one in English once. Even in evening they would yap constant Korean (?) and never give a call up to or at sign-off. They were always precise as to sign-off time so somebody must have known what they were doing.

Now ? As said..go to 740 at 10:00 PM and yap yap yap

I do pick up 990 here and although I can't understand it they seem to play by the rules.

Their signal strength seems normal down here in SW corner.

WLIE 540 would swamp receivers here up to a year or so ago.(nights) Still have a nice night signal but it went way down.

but--WNYH 18 watts or what is it ?

Radio Cantico Nuevo is on WJDM 1530 in Elizabeth, New Jersey and WNYH 740 in Huntington, Long Island.

1530 WJDM = 1000 Watts daytime/670 Watts Critical.

740 WNYH = 25,000 Watts daytime/43 Watts Night time

Supposedly WNYH's daytime pattern is all messed up. Maybe their night time pattern is too. I don't even remember when the last time they broadcast 24 hours was. Maybe when they were simulcasting then sister station WHLI?

And I'm not surprised you can get WXCT 990 from Southington down in Southwest, Connecticut. That 2,500 watts really gets out. While I was an intern there 2002-2004 I remember our morning show got a phone call from someone listening in Chappequa (sic), New York. (The town The Clinton's were living in while Hillary was a senator). The Polka show once got a call from a listener in Poughkeepsie, New York. And one summer morning back in 2001 around 6:30AM I received the station on a walkman in Brattleboro, Vermont!!! (Not bad for 2500 watts).

I never saw the Southington 990 radio antenna site.

1380 Naugatuck put up some new antenna set-up and totally un-scientific but on car radio they sure don't sound like they did in older days.(signal strength) I think it's directed at Spanish population in Waterbury but gezzzzz Driving rt8 in area it vanishes awful fast.

At night here on 990 I mostly get WDCX? Rochester,NY. I know the station engineer for the Philadelphia 990 is always griping about the Canadian 990 screwing up their coverage area.

BUT 740..wnyh Day..25kw ok

Their 40+ watts at night swamps Southern Connecticut ??

(by charts it should not even get here)

ya know...why not 940 WINE Brookfield get into the action ? 690 Ansonia ? I have heard WADS forget to throw some switch at night at times but they are pretty good at signing off at night.

Listen to 690 at about sunset. You might catch the Jacksonville,FL station prior to it's 'switch'.

I don't wish to pick on WNYH 740 and I'm sure they are trying to survive. BUT--
