This is what I heard in between songs on 740 WNYH This morning. It was something like:

Thank-you to everyone who is calling in with your comments about our programming. Please do not call our 718 number, that number is only for businesses interested in sponsoring our programming. Again we appreciate your comments. We hope to some day get a phone number for you to leave your comments. Until then please mail all your comments to WNYH Radio AM 740 Such and Such Street in Some Town in New York.

"Such and Such" street in "Some Town" Is Queens BLVD in Forest Hills. Is that within the 0.5m/v contour of the station's signal??? Once the good doctor sees his LIPA bill for those 25,000 watt xmitters humming along uselessly maybe there will be 'major changes' .

Parts of the 5 mv contour cover northeastern Queens, so the answer to your question is "yes, sort of." Borders between contours are not click-stops. They blend.

There's no question that WNYH sounds amateurish, is loaded with audio chain and other technical problems and plays a music rotation that's too narrow. And if we're to believe some of the other posts on this subject, they're already subject to internal strife beyond their size.

As for their attempts to put on locally produced brokered programs: they already face stiff competition from LIE and GBB, which overlap large parts of their signal.

But you have to give them credit for taking risks and doing something different.

I was just listening to WNYH on the way home from work this afternoon and they were playing the EXACT same songs in order that they were playing yesterday afternoon at the same time. What are they doing...burning CDs with music and then just playing the CDs?

Even the stop set was exactly the same with the same mistake at the end. At the end of the stop set a Johnny Mathis song comes up mid-song and then immediately dumps out.

Here's what I heard from 3:40p today AND yesterday...

Cathy's Clown - Everly Bros.
Party Doll - Buddy Know
Donna - Richie Valens
Stop Set
Baby I'm Yours - Barbara Lewis
I Can't Help Myself - Four Tops
Dream Lover - Bobby Darin

I'll have to make sure I listen again tomorrow to see if they do the same thing three days in a row

You should have heard them last summer/fall, when they were playing hymns. The SAME three CD's, OVER AND OVER AND OVER for WEEKS on end! Oh... once in a great while, someone would change ONE of them, and there was one that remained in that changer for the duration... that one contained a number of slow instrumental versions of hymns, with two very brief "This is WNYH, (city)" Legals ID's. (I forget the city, now.) That's probably the only reason that CD remained in the system... it was the ONLY legal ID or announcer voice of any kind for MONTHS!

When they were playing those hymns, their audio quality was SUPERB!!! I wonder what the heck they fiddled with to RUIN their audio???

Obviously, they are still using the same old tricks... only maybe now, they have a larger CD changer instead of that 3-disc unit from last year?

No matter how you look at it, it's absolutely pathetic what they're doing with such a wonderful signal! It blasts into CT like a blooming local! If I only had the respources... it would be interesting to see what could be done with that signal by relocating it to CT, and changing the pattern... AWAY form Canada (toward LI!) and see how much more power it could run with at night. Even if it meant dropping from 20K to, say, 5K day... having 1K night... that would be fantastic!

OK, I'll stop dreaming, now.

Willie...
