WNYH is promoting on TV!

I caught a quick sponsorship on News12 Long Island for WNYH, you know that 25k, automated local powerhouse at 740AM? They promote themselves as having more oldies music and less commercials than any other. It may be a trade coupled with Newsday, the latest Cablevision acquisition for an upcoming ratings season.

Seems funny that the station can't establish itself with any type of consistent spot load, and pushing that weekness as a plus for the listener. Then again, it might be a smart idea on their part to gain recognition and attract block time purchasers.

Anyone catch it?

Funny, yesterday a buddy told me that it was sold, or someone else is running it, they were giving out a 718 area code and it was reggae/island type music. Did someone buy the time or did they sell off.
Too bad, that would be a cool station if set up right.

I've caught the TV AD on News 12 in the morning a couple of times. It's really not a full commercial spot. Its more of a 5 second billboard Ad. They show the station logo and there is a quick mention of something to the effect of "News 12 Long Island is brought to you in part by AM 740 WNYH, Playing more oldies and less commercials." Not the exact words, but something along those lines. I haven't seen an actual 10, 30 or 60 second spot for them. I would say the quick billboards are a good start, and probably the most economical. It's more than some other stations are doing to promote themselves.
