WNYZ 87.7 May Need to End Radio Broadcasting by 2012

To the owner of a pirate station, when they no longer hear something on 87.7, they'll start a pirate station on 87.7.

There's a pirate on 87.9 in Newark that has been on the air longer than WNYZ has been licensed. It really annoyed me back when 87.7 was Pulse, but now I just don't care about that pirate. For a short time there was a pirate directly on 87.7 also in Newark.

Operating a pirate on a vacant frequency in the market is one thing for the FCC and they just issue fines until the pirate either ceases or lowers their power, but when a pirate decides to operate on an occupied frequency in the market (FM or DTV), and one that isn't even allocated for FM broadcasts in the USA (the band is 87.9 - 107.9, with 87.9 only for legacy use), they'll get involved more actively and will likely seize all equipment used by the pirate as it will basically be the equivelant of signal jamming for those trying to watch whatever leased programming they decide to put on WNYZ's digital TV signal.

WRGB's operation was unique since they also reduced the bandwidth of their digital channel to around 82-87 at the same time when they started to operate the polarized 87.9 signal.

As of exactly a year ago (since I haven't had a desire to walk near the Big Blue Building in Queens after Pulse died), I noticed that WNYZ had an audio carrier on 87.74 and hash that sounded like a digital TV station from 82-87.5.
