WNYZ/Pulse 87 applies for digital permit...

I thought they applied for a flash cut to digital a while back? In any case, we all knew they would eventually go digital. This information says nothing about when that might happen, and a cutoff date for LPTV stations still hasn't been announced by the FCC as far as I know.

Unless there's technology I'm not aware of... If Ch. 6 goes digital, that will signal the end for 87.75 as a dance station. I'm surprised they don't run infomercials on CH. 6. I'd think that would make more $$ for the owners. Don't they broadcast from Empire State Building tower?

Yes, when they go digital, they won't be able to continue operating as an FM station as they do now. But the point is that the thread is old news: they applied to flash-cut to digital in 2006, but since LPTV's are not bound by the analog-to-digital switchover in February, they will remain on analog for the foreseeable future.

As for the infomercials, how would they run them without audio? Remember, Channel 6's audio is Pulse 87. I don't think they would make much money, if at all, showing infomercials with something completely different coming out of the speakers.

Finally, they broadcast from the Citicorp building in Long Island City, Queens...or as they announce it on Pulse 87, "the top of that big blue building in Queens."

Infomercials on TV6 would mean audio follows video. No pulse.

They've probably made a determination that they can make more money as a radio station with decent coverage of the five boroughs and nearby suburbs, than as a TV station which barely anyone can get. Even if Pulse doesn't work out ultimately, it's more likely they switch to brokered Russian than put on infomercials. The FM/audio signal is vastly superior to the video signal.
