WNYZ Question for David Eduardo

David, WNYZ is supposed to have a weekday cume of 500,000 (Arbitron PPM) (Arbitron won't list them in the regular book since they are an LP-TV and not really an FM station).

Where would that cume put them vs. the other NYC music stations if they were listed?

A cume of 500,000 to 600,000 would place them at 26 in the market, around the size of the WJKY or WEPN audience cume. The #1 station cumes 5.2 million by comparison, and WKTU cumes 4.6 million.

Thanks David. That's about what I thought, they're not exactly burning up the NYC market..(but part of that may be the signal doesn't match a full-power stick and it isn't being promoted)..

Last week they seemed to be running spots mostly for small local businesses in Queens, Brooklyn, etc.

Being at the bottom of the PPM heap probably isn't going to be bringing in national business like was being pimped in that article..

It's an interesting station, but it's obviously not going to overtake WKTU..

Well that definitely would be a major shame down the line if they don't do considerably better "somehow", because to anyone out there who's got an ear for today's dance and doesn't want to remain stagnant in yesterday's sound, Pulse is a million times better than WKTU at this point in time, no question!

If there's no money for promoting it, then maybe they need everyone who likes Pulse 87.7 to tell a friend..

If not enough people know about it, it's just not going to survive.

Could Pulse 87 get a digital TV license and keep the analog channel 6 too (after next February)? Since many people use a TV antenna for digital TV, they would find WNYZ-DT by channel surfing, and they can also lower the modulation of the audio for the DTV so that people can listen to Pulse by watching its DTV channel.

You actually think Pulse would get more listeners from listening to a radio station on a digital tv channel? Where do most people listen to the radio??? It's not in their living rooms.

Big announcement, Pulse 87 will be moving from the current 87.7, to 87.9! Now you can hear the real beat of NY on any aftermarket or factory radio :) Just kidding, but that would be a nice move ;D

They actually tried that (broadcasting on 87.9, or close enough to it that it was heard on 87.9 instead of 87.7) for a couple of days, a couple of weeks before Pulse signed on. Then they switched back to 87.76.

They cannot pay their bills

I think Pulse Parent will be filing bankruptcy soon

They flat out cannot afford Star and Bucwild

Pulse may be going off the air and Not by Mega Media's choice either.

The Star and Buc Wild show is over at Pulse 87. See link to David Hinckley's NY Daily News article below.

I guess their "big announcement" on Monday morning 10/20/08 was that they'll play 87 minutes of commercial-free, uninterrupted music starting at 7AM (presumably Monday-Friday mornings).
