I know at some point someone will say this is the "reshuffling the chairs on the deck of the Titanic", but I think as long as the new Ticket Morning show does well this will be a good move. In reality this is what radio outsiders clamor for-- more local programming. WOAI becomes local in the evening after Jeff Bolton, and Schnitt (who I could never understand why he was on in Texas to begin with) gets dumped for Hannity.

KTSA's Ricci Ware guffawed about these lineup shuffles on his show Friday afternoon. His spin was that the changes were the result of WOAI's failure to gain a ratings foothold against KTSA's strong lineup. He said this was all the more amazing when one considers WOAI's 50KW signal vs. KTSA's 5KW.

IIRC, he likened Charlie Parker's move to The Ticket as the San Antonio radio equivalent of being sent to Siberia.

The funny thing is, I can pick up KTSA better here in Houston, than I can WOAI. However, I can pick up WOAI in Shreveport (evenings/mornings), but not KTSA.

I actually think Clear Channel is just trying to build a better audience for "The Ticket", given the success of the Spurs and the fact the franchise, barring injuries, should continue to be successful for the forseeable future. I also think WOAI is trying to build on Rush's audience by putting Sean Hannity on after him. Not defending Clear Channel, but WOAI had a very strong showing in the latest trends, mostly thanks to the Spurs, but I don't think Clear Channel's concern about KTSA is the reason they did this. I do applaud the fact that KTSA is local in most dayparts, and that is the reason they are able to maintain their success in the ratings. I'm surprised that Ricci even mentioned them at all. I guess when you've been on the air as long as he has, you can get away with talking about your direct competition like that. <P ID="signature">______________

putting hannity live after rush is a no-brainer. the real news is... why wasn't this done a long time ago?

the rush, hannity combo is the radio equivalent of tv's dr phil, oprah lead in. why do think that, in san antonio, ksat-12 kills in the 5,6 pm ratings? yes, they're good, but they have a hell of a lead-in. compare it to kens' "insider" "jeopardy" and woai's "ellen degeners."

honestly, it's amazing ktsa does as well as it does.

Ain't that the truth.

From Jeanne Jakle's column in the Express-News today:

"Replacing veteran Parker on WOAI's flagship show — 5 to 9 a.m. — will be a TV guy, Joe Pagliarulo, who's 38 and out of Albany, N.Y. His career started in radio in Palm Beach, Fla., before he switched to TV jobs in Michigan and New York. "Pags," as he's called, will join the team already in place — Bob Guthrie, Stan Kelly, Betsy Britton and Walter Pasacrita."

Another KTSA reaction:

Jack Riccardi just pointed out on his show that WOAI is hiring a "guy from the station I used to work at to do the job that I used to do." He went on to add that the new guy also has an Italian surname.
