WOBN to switch frequencies

WOBN is just planning ahead! Next thing in line would be the FCC approving the move of WNKO since the station out near dayton (urbana) wksw 101.7 has been granted a move to near dayton to 101.5.

Then Columbus can have another Class A!

Wow another tired generic classic rock station. No wonder terrestrial radio is dying. WOAB FM is one of the few FM Stations I listen to. Since they don't play tired old music.

How many frequency moves does this make for WOBN? It's the third that I know of.

4th if you would include the move from AM to FM. I don't know what they were on AM, but FM it was 91.5 to 101.5 to now 97.5.

Wikipedia to the rescue, filling in the blanks on everything but the AM frequency. This will make 5 moves. WOBN was at 105.7 when I was there in the mid 80s.

I totally forgot about WOBN at 105.7. They got kicked off that frequency and went to 101.5 because Rob Case wanted 105.7 to start a new station. It was the power pig, which later became Hot 105 etc, etc, etc.

1057 was even known as wtlt THE LIGHT with early precursor to the FISH contemporary CHristian format in the early 90s when wcvo was still a full service formatted teaching, news, and music CHristian station.

I don't remember 105.7 ever being Christian AC. 107.1 was at one point named 107.1 WTLT - The Light and had a Christian AC format before switching to a rebroadcast of 105.7 which at the time was 'Hot 105'. The combined station was Hot 105 Hot 107 and had a danceish/CHR format. (If I remember around that time WNCI leaned more AC than CHR, with their slogan "Not to hard not to lite"

matt--u r right. tlt the light and the power pig were sister stations. my bad--david 9396

It's ok dave!

Later on Salem purchased Z-Rock 103.1 WRZR and attempted a 24/7 Christian AC station with a local morning show and at one point local drive. They eventually sold 103.1, If I remeber thats when it was sold to Stop26.

But back on topic, I am suprised WOBN didnt get 97.5 up in time for the fall. Hopefully they can make the switch soon, If I remember looking at the app it also involves movin the transmitter site.

Now lets go way back...does anyone remember when WCKX was a CCM station?

Back in the mid 80's...then a few from that staff went to work for WRFD and inserted blocks of CCM into their programming eventually WRFD gained a 2.5-3.0 share in the market which wasn't to shabby for a religious/farm/ccm station say around 1987 or 1988.

WTLT was a nice sounding station...it's only problem is that it didn't speak the lingo of the hardcore conservatie Christians well enough and it was to JPM Jesus Per Minute for the masses...a good station, solid programming just a bit ahead of its time in Columbus.

I listened to that station all the time...Stacy McKay was on in the morning, Dave Riley in the afternoon, Marty Daniels in the evening. Pretty solid talent although I do not remember who else was there right off the top of my head.

TLT was awesome but before its time in the market plus if I remember 107.1's signal was a lot weaker back then than it is now (dont hold me to that but I thought I remember the signal was weaker than it is now)

How did this happen? I'm sure WNCI/WBNS both probably had something to say about this one? :-*

I dont think WBNS or WNCI cares to much honestly, WOBN's signal is not even remotely powerful enough to cause interference.

They both already had a say in this...and both said it was ok. It won't cause any interference. And the FCC said if WOBN did cause interference they are to sign off till it is fixed.

The station puts out 29 watts of power, heck my fridge light bulb puts out more wattage. Then on some days 101.5 does interfere with WCRS LPFM 102.1 on some days.
