WOCN 1450 QUESTION

HEY GUYS AND GALS:

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY HISTORY OF 1450 WHEN IT WAS WWPB, WSKP AND WOCN?

AND ANY INFO ON WHEN WOCN WENT SPANISH? I AM GUESSING IN 1975 WHEN BOTH STATIONS (WOCN 1450 AND 94.9) WAS SOLD. THE FM WENT TO GUY GANNETT AND BECAME WINZ PROGRESSIVE AOR. WHERE DID THE AM GO?

ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT!!!

THANKS AGAIN!!!

T.J.

From what I heard 1450 was WWPB and owned by a fellow named Paul Brake. The FM was WWPB-FM 101.9 which you would know better as WLYF. Paul sold the AM many years before the FM. He knew that FM was the future of radio. I don't remember WWPB-AM it was already WSKP by that time and I'm unsure what the format was.

WSKP-AM and WAEZ-FM (South Florida's pioneer stereo station) were sold to the owner of WWBA AM/FM in Tampa, Ed Winton. They did their own beautiful music tapes in Tampa and I believe they marketed them to other stations in other cities.

There is a great article on the Beautiful Music format: http://www.easylisteninghq.com/downloads/bm_radio.pdf
