WODI No More??

I was scanning the band over the weekend and recall not picking up a carrier on 1230 from WODI in Campbell County. Are they still on-the-air? I enjoyed them when they were the Oldies/Classic Hits hybrid but when they switched to Country which was already a saturated format in the area, I had my reservations about the choice. IIRC, didn't the station get sold to new owners? Sad to see another Locally O/O go silent if that is indeed what happened :(

I looked at buying WODI many years ago, but their transmitter site literally sat at the edge of a river and was very flood-prone. Would have been a cool little station to own, though. Hope if it's not on the air, it will be someday soon!

I was the recent owner of WODI which I rebuilt from the hurricane back in 1996. The station was silent when I purchased it and neated lots of work. I returned it to the air on Feb 2,1997 and co owned it with a partner and we had 7 good years of radio until the economy turned sour and a stand alone AM became a struggle to survive. People didn't care about it anymore. Satellite radio and internet streaming besides FM was the in thing and therefore we lost listeners and sponsors, so we had no choice but to sell it in 2010 when we had a buyer and he too couldn't make a go with it. We had a great format originally starting with Cool Oldies & Hot Talk, then we tried Country then Gospel and ended back with Oldies which we called Gold Hits. I must say it was one of the best sounding little station with reverb for a AM in the area. The audio chain consisted of old equipment from the 60's except for the final audio processing. The transmitter was a Nautel Amphet 1 inside a trailer which I customized back in NJ where we were both from. You can find pictures, jingles and airchecks on my website and a lot more radio stuff too.

Thanks for the post guys and for listening to WODI AM 1230 in Brookneal "Woody Radio"
