WODS and the 80's.

Should WODS go all 80s's? They seem to be playing a lot of 80's music now, and less and less 60's. The 70's and 80's could be a good mix too. Do you think Boston could support an all 80's format?

No... 80s formats were tried in other parts of the country about 10 years ago and didn't last long at all. A little bit of 60s, 70s, and 80s formats have become very successful all across the country, I don't see them giving it up, unless it's for a WBZ simulcast.

The vast majority of WROR's (and most other classic hits stations) playlist is 70s and 80s. I've often wondered about the viability of an all 80s format. My guess is the small overly safe playlist most stations would use would burn quickly.

We are in a different age now. WODS seems to be playing quality 80's music that Mix wasn't touching when they were still doing 80's. I think if done right, it could work now.

Really? What 80's records on WODS do you think were avoided by Mix? I know Mix was closer to alternative during the Strasell era (think "Ghost in You" and "Orange Crush"), but they covered the anthems that you hear on WODS today as well.

POP records, Mix played Alternative and New Wave leaning 80's music.

How about "Hit Radio 103.3 WODS!" ;D

;)

I like the mix of 60s, 70s, and 80s. I also wouldn't mind "All 60s Weekends", "All 70s Weekends", and "All 80s Weekends" with an alternating structure. They could go to deeper cuts then too.

I'd like either WROR or WODS to get rid of the 60s and do an 80s-based GenX format that spans from 1975 to 2000, with an core of New Wave pop tracks. Yes, I listen to Boom 97.3 in Toronto over the 'net. :)

'ROR is too heritage focused to go that route. WODS on the other hand, could do it, but I am tired of the overplayed songs on Back to The 80's Friday Night though.
