WODS and WROR officially flip!

It's official. Woke up with my alarm at 6am to Christmas music on WODS. Waited through a couple more to hear Karen Blake say at about 6:12 that they started a little earlier this year.

Now listening to WROR through Wally's sports report and Men from Maine. Loren Owens just said they are playing "Boston's Favorite Christmas Songs". Yup, now playing Jingle Bell Rock.

As best as I can tell from yes.com, WROR played Let It Snow just before 6am. Not sure if WODS played anything before 6.

I am now dropping both stations until around December 26th.

I am streaming WODS at 7:30 am, & they are playing "Rockin' around the Christmas Tree" ;D

WROR - "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" ;D

This is unbelievable - I can't imagine starting this early. Are they going to do solid "wall to wall" Christmas songs, or maybe mix some in here & there?

I love Christmas, but even this is too early for me!

I woke up to Let it snow about 6:12 this morning and thought I was dreaming!!!!! LOL I actually thought it would be tomorrow 103 would switch, but WROR got the jump on them this year. So now it's 1-1 as oldies switched over first last year. LOL

It's too early for radio stations to be playing Christmas music, let alone Comcast Music Choice (524) here in Revere area. They normally play both Disco and Old School Hip Hop. They just started playing Christmas Music the day after Halloween.

So early

Maybe with the CHANGE that President-Elect Obama has been advocating for the last 2 years, perhaps he can outlaw 6 weeks of Christmas music. ;D

And you people better be on your best behavior. This thread has made the scrolling "Most popular threads in the last 3 hours" screen on the front page. :p

Though I won't be listening myself, you have to realize that the Christmas music always gives WODS a significant spike in their ratings for the fall book. Apparently, a lot of people do like it!

I don't know if WROR does quite as well with the Christmas music, though. WODS seems to have the reputation as the Christmas music king in Boston. WROR keeps trying to grab a piece of that pie, but I wonder if they would do better staying with their regular programming (until very close to the holiday) for the people who still want to hear the usual Classic Hits/Oldies which are not being played on WODS for almost two months.

WROR's "Me too!" programming blows. What cowards.

And "Santa Claus" is back on the Paul Perry show (WROR) again this year.

Last year he was *terrific* taking calls from little kids, as well as big kids and adults calling in for laughs.

This marks a good day for North Shore 104.9 (WBOQ)!! If you want the classics, that's where you'll have to go.....

Yes i agree with you, But the board is overwhelmingly negative on this concept.
More important this year with Mel killing SATRAD there is no X- Mas music on there as of yet.

Did B-101 force this change ?
I notice they are also all X- Mas. What time did they start ?

Maybe next year they will get a jump-start and start at midnite November 1st instead?

BTW, who flipped first WODS or WROR?

WROR flipped first around 5:55am or so, give or take a minute or three. WODS flipped about 6am.

Keep in mind that Loren and Wally start their morning show on WROR at 5:30. Karen starts her show on Oldies at 6am. If Karen started at 5:30 (like Dale had), they might have flipped at 5:30 and before WROR.

I was in Pennsylvania on a trip, and, as we drove back across the RI border, I said to my wife "I bet you Oldies went Christmas today" and as the signal gained strength the sound of Karen Carpenter signing "There's No Place Like Home for The Holidays" started fading in and out. I knew they'd flipped because I could feel it...before I even heard it...

Yes, I don't think we'll have to worry about WBOQ playing Christmas music for a while. Just this past weekend (during automation) I heard this liner:

"North Shore 104.9, playing your Good Time Favorites all summer long!!"

At this rate, they might start dropping in some Christmas songs around February... :D
