WODS/Boston: Barry Scott's Saturday Night Dance Party gone??

Normally, on Saturday nights, from 8pm-11pm, we'd hear Barry Scott and his Saturday Night Dance Party.

Moments ago, however, Mighty Mike Osborne signed on with an apparently new show replacing it called "Saturday Night 70s with Mighty Mike Osborne". First tune: "Saturday Night's alright for a fight".

I've heard on-air jocks promoting it all day. I believe they said it runs from 7pm to 11pm.

I checked Lost45s.com and Barry Scott mentions nothing of the SNDP. It is usually mentioned at the end of whatever he has going on for Lost 45s in a given week.

Barry's bio on Oldies' website still mentions the SNDP. In fact, Oldies' site also says Mauzy Stafford is On-Air right now. Normally, she would be. Her normal Sunday shift is from about 2pm to 8pm. But Mighty Mike is on-air. Actually, Mauzy wasnt even on today. Another woman whose voice I didnt recognize was in her place.

So what's happened to the Sat Night Dance Party??

Yes now that you mention it I heard the promo for Sat. Night 70s last night and I thought,
either this is a show that's just on before Barry Scott's Dance Party, or it has just replaced it...

That stinks if it's gone. Barry Scott is a bit of an aquired taste but he nows his stuff musically.

In my opinion, Mauzy isn't really an asset to Oldies. She is annoying. My wife and I did like the dance music on Sat. nites though. Maybe Garrett is on to something...could they be making room for Movin' 98.5?

heard some of it tonight...Eagles "Lyin' Eyes", "It's Too Late" by Carole King.

sounding like MIKE FM gone all 70s music.

Just kidding.... :p

I'm not. Boston could use a Movin station. Hell I'd put it AT 103.3 but with a larger emphasis on 60s and 70s rhythmic music.

As for Barry's Saturday show the same 100 or so POP disco hits all 7" edits can get boring after awhile.

He's not going to mix live on the air, and make songs "Phase" and echo like Ron RObin did on Disco 93, or any of the kiss Jocks in their early days while playing the eleven minute, twelve inch versions of songs.

Mauzy isn't on today either. It's currently 2:35pm and she is normally on from 2-7. Her picture isn't showing on the site as On-Air either but her bio is still on the site. Don't know who the guy is subbing for her but he sounds like one of the regular fill-ins.

It does occur to me that she was the only regular member of the morning crew to work during the Christmas/New Year holiday week. While Uncle Dale, June and Jimmy were off for 10 days or so, Mauzy was there with traffic and news. So she very well could be on vacation.

I do enjoy listening to Mauzy unlike one of the previous posters.

Barry Scott's Saturday Night Dance Party gone??

I hope it's not gone or he's not gone again. I liked both of his shows. I'll check and see if "Lost 45's" is on it's usual Sunday night slot. There's nothing else different on Boston radio. Does anyone know what happened??? First Palermo quits ODS and now this...are they eating themselves from inside?

The WODS site still lists him, along with "Barry also hosts "The Oldies 103.3 Saturday Night Party" each Saturday night from 8 to Midnight, featuring the greatest disco/dance songs of all time!"...is the new Mighty Mike
show permanent?

If Barry were to leave WODS I could picture WROR taking him

Agreed that he's an acquired taste. He does an ok job with Lost 45s, but he's way too nerdy to be hosting a party show.

I was more referring to not restricting the ALL TIME playlist (Sat night) to just 76-80. If it was labeled at the best ALL TIME Party Favorites he should go from the 60s to the present day.

The old WROR (98.5) is Lost45's most recent previous home before Oldies. He was booted to Oldies when WROR flipped to Mix98.5 back around 1991 or 1992. Which means he's been with Oldies 103.3 for about 15 years.

At 715pm eastern, Lost 45's with Barry Scott is on the air at Oldies 103.

Hasn't Barry been all over the dial with his show(s). I would think that if he gets booted from Oldies he's probably done in the Boston market. Also agreed...he IS an aquired taste...and most of the time he makes me squint!

Well, Lost 45s started on Emerson College radio (WERS) way back when Barry Scott was a student there. He graduated in 1985 according to the Lost45s myspace.com page. It's been on WODS since about 1991 or 1992. Previous to that, it was on the old WROR (98.5) for a couple of years but I dont know exactly for how long or the specifics between 1985 and 1991.

And, it was in syndication for 6 years.

And, Lost 45's is streaming online again after a long absence when most radio stations stopped streaming for a couple of years.

Yes, he seems to have been all over the dial for the 20 years of its commercial existence. It supposedly gets very high ratings constantly so I can't imagine it never having a home.

He was at WZLX in the early 90s; somewhere I have a tape from 1991 of him there with Dr. Demento
as guest. It's possible the show's title at WERS was The Goldmine

Well, then, I guess I'm wrong ;D

I vaguely (VERY vaguely) recall that Lost 45s stuck around very briefly when the old WROR flipped to Mix98.5 back around '91 and also very vaguely recall reading something at the time that he was allowed a "farewell show" where he was allowed to announce to which station he was going which is very unusual.

I thought that was when the show went from Mix to Oldies. But maybe it was going from Mix to WZLX. Or WZLX to Oldies.

Or maybe I just dreamed the whole thing and it never happened. ::) ;D :D

I believe he started at ZLX.

I think he has done stints at BOS and 93.7 as well, and he was still with 98.5 for awhile after it became Mix.

He was off the air for awhile and when he has getting ready to return I emailed him recommending he consider WJMN of all places with an Old School show marking his first 94.5 broadcast.

The show wasn't excactly off the air as you put it. After Entercom dumped Eagle for
Star in '99, he kept streaming it on DiscJockey.com for a couple years
until it was back broadcast radio in '01 on the new WROR. Just a few
months later he moved it to WODS. SNP debuted on 'ODS in mid-02'.
