WODS-Numbers?

Without breaking the rules on posting numbers from Arbitron. It has been quite some time now that Pete Falconi made the switch in afternoons. How have the numbers gone with moving JJ and putting in Karen. (Both great talent IMO.) Did Mr. Falconi make a wise move? I know we can get in to details about it all, but did the day part go up enough?

This may have been discussed already. The last time *I* saw it was way too early. Christmas music was still being played.

I’ll leave my office door open, no need to knock this time. ;D

Without being able to quote exact numbers (that I have seen) it has been a hot topic of conversation within the walls of my radio station that making the move to put Karen in for JJ (who I also think are both excellent talents) proved to be a great move for WODS. Since she took over she has moved the station into the top 5 - 25-54 in each rating book. Prior to that their afternoon show was no where close to the top 5. She may have breathed new life into that radio station. Kudos to her!

I like JJ better - Karen is too over the top for me - BUT - I do understand she reaches their core audience.
Since ODS is more of a jukebox for me, if I don't hear a song I want, it's on to ROR, ZLX, WMBR, WERS, WJIB,
you get the drift.

Just came back from Maine (didn't see Howie Carr at the gay bar in Ogunquit this afternoon? Oh well...thought he would be at the piano ruining Show Tunes) - their oldies station (The Wave, I think) is pretty good.
But leaving Boston we heard "Listen To The Music" by the Doobie Brothers, and in Maine with their oldies station we heard...you guessed it..."Listen To The Music", Long Train Runnin' and "Takin' It To The Streets"...too much Doobie Brothers for me in one day. Obviously these oldies stations are playing the same core tunes.

p.s. "Listen To The Music", which RKO helped launch nationally. The Doobie Bros. pissed off the RKO suits when they opened their first Boston show with "Listen TO The Music" 1972 or 3, i forget the date of the show. They opened for T Rex- great gig at the Orpheum. RKO wanted them to end the show with the tune.

It's actually quite amazing when you think of it...CBS searches all over for talent to "move the needle" and many times opts to bring in national names to do so...they pay those people big money and many times they end up doing nothing and they're out millions of dollars. Locally, this was a very smart move. Whenever I have had the chance to listen to WODS the afternoon I must say Karen has made me laugh. Listeners obviously like her because as I mentioned in my other post there was a substantial jump up in the afternnon ratings from the moment she went on the air there and it has stayed up since. That says a lot for her appeal!

Now lets keep our eyes on Opi and Anthony and the Toucher and Rich and see what they do!
