WODS / WROR and WZLX all going more pop

As a follow-up to my WZLX thread -

Today on WROR Tommy James "Draggin' The Line" into "Will IT Go Round In Circles" by Billy Preston

WODS "Let's Live For Today" Grass Roots (3 PM hour I believe)

Ed Schultz on AM 1670 going on the air with his Guns 'n' Roses theme - always a welcome sound.

But anyone notice that WZLX, ROR and ODS are all going with this lighter pop sound lately? Or is it the end of summer less-heavy mode?

I'm just finding ZLX to be more and more disappointing every time I listen to it..............seems like the only place to get good Classic Rock these days is the Rocket.

WROR and WODS have always played those tunes. WODS has always been a completely pop station, and WROR also has, except for that unsuccessful experiment about six years ago when they tried integrating deep 60's/70's AOR album cuts into their format for a short time. Otherwise, mainstream Oldies and Classic Hits formats are pop formats.

WZLX is certainly a little more poppy than they used to be. Probably trying to pick up their ratings.

Can't really get that unless I'm on the South Shore or the Cape. As for other commercial Classic Rock stations that I can get (if I go a few miles north or west of Boston), I prefer 96.5 WMLL "The Mill" Manchester, NH to what has become of WZLX.

Their DJ's sound like human beings. Still upbeat and professional, but personable, not the smarmy, obnoxius talking-down style of most hosts on WZLX (except Carter). I heard their PD on his airshift the other day throw in "thanks for listening"... I realized that those simple few words made it feel like I was appreciated as a listener... and I realized that I would never hear any WZLX DJ (except perhaps Carter) say that. It's just not part of their usual yuckster schtick. Chuck Nowin is a talented, seasoned pro, very good at what he does, but he has to stoop to their lowest common denominator banter as well. I just find WZLX mostly an insulting, grating experience to listen to lately. I guess I'm finally aging out of their demo.

Maybe so.
I don't notice anything harsh when I listen. Just a little bit more energy, but nothing offensive.
I've yet to hear the Manchester station. Seems like the same playlist.

Problem is, most DJ's aren't.............human beings, that is...........they're just a super inflated ego that makes minimum wage to sit on a stool and play songs off a computer...........all the while thinking they are god................ ::)
