WOEZ EZ88 is gone.

I guess that's all she wrote for EZ88. Tune into 88.3 and hear a loop of a Christian Rock song and liners teasing a new format set to debut on June 1st.

EZ88 was once a really good station. Recent changes made for a difficult listen, but it was still worth tuning into once in awhile. Now we have yet another Christian station on the FM dial. How many does that make now?

Why would they "compete" with a format they already own? Doesn't that company run two Christian stations already? They must be in it for the ministry.

EZ 88 went down the tubes when they started gradually changing their format.

Wonder if they'll still do the Christmas music?

Wonder what they'll do. Maybe split up "Love 89" and do Contemporary Christian AC on one and Contemporary Christian CHR on the other?

Personally, I wish they'd move WRJZ's Christian/preaching format to 88.3 and do news/talk on the 620 signal. Knoxville could really use a news/talk competitor to WNOX. Even if they just moved WETR 760AM's mostly Salem talk format to 620, it would give it a much better signal and a 24 hour a day timeclock. That's an idea, since the FM station has to be non-commercial, but AM 620 doesn't have to be. Anyone think that scenario could happen?

That scenario won't happen. WRJZ makes a lot of money. It would make a lot less money with the non-commercial shackles of 88.3.

Christian CHR on 89.1. Christian AC on 88.3. It's a lot easier to beg for money from listeners for a mission than for a format. You cover your nut with listener support, and then the commerci... underwriting announcements are gravy.

That pretty much says it all. But now what happens to all the people who donated to EZ88 this year? Do they get their money back? Obviously I know the answer to that one and that's why I find it difficult to donate to non-commercial operations. You give money one day and who knows if they will be around tomorrow?

Shame to see it go, but we've all heard that before. I stopped listening when they started messing with the music. Glad I've got plenty of Frank, Tony and Nat in my own collection.

Good point...are donors entitled to a partial refund in this case? I guess I can share what I have done...for several years I had long made contributions to a local southern gospel station. About a year ago the PD/Morning Announcer left who had been with the station since it started--he simply said he had been led to a different ministry. Within a month, the station took on some different sounds and directions and in the process lost another popular announcer. The station is still southern gospel, but I am a bit disturbed about all the changes that took place. I sent a long letter to a couple of "higher ups" at the station and never got a response. Wouldn't you think upper management would respond to a long time donor who has questions about the direction a station has taken? Right or wrong, I have ceased my giving to them.
Sorry if I've strayed from the topic here, but if I had been a donor to EZ88 I certainly would be contacting them about this.

Eric

The reality is they asked for listener support but got very little. As mentioned above, people will open up their wallets for the Lord, a special cause, or a needy charity. Keeping a certain type of music on the radio doesn't get a lot of donations.

They could probably refund all the listener donations they've gotten this year out of the drink machine change.

Well first off the teaser song for EZ88 is not a christian rock song is a Pop song by Natalie Grant i do believe. It is interesting to me that everyone at this post is so upset about this station changing formats. Obviously the other format with Barbara Streisand and the like was not doing well and if they did not have enough money but what was in a vending machine... Um....i see why they are changing formats... I know here in tricities the christain music format does get more donations and support than the EZ format ever did. That format here went oldies...LOL

That was the 2nd song they used as a teaser. I was talking about the first song they used. Sounded like Lifehouse or some similar band.

I've listened to each station, "Love" and the new "Life," but I can't hear a difference. Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the two? I have always liked quite of bit of that kind of music, Jars of Clay, Skillet, David Crowder, etc., I just never seem to catch a good song whenever I flip-on the station(s).

So sorry to hear EZ88 is gone..
Whenever I took my grandfather out of his Knoxville nursing home for a ride, that was his favorite station because it was soothing, non-offensive and down-to-earth.
Over the years, he gave me an appreciation of the Nat's, the Bing's, the Tony's, the Ray Conniff's, the Dean's, the Sammie's..
My grandfather is gone now, and now, so is his favorite radio station.
It became one of mine, too.
There is a market for that, even commercially, but nobody will have the guts to program it.
For some reason, there just aren't enough country, Christian, and rap stations around East Tennessee.
Oh well.. the world needs one more soccer field and one more Wal-Mart.

From what I understand, this station was playing garbage at the end. No wonder no one listened.

Is WQBB still around during the day? I never see it in the Arbitron ratings. This seems to happen every time a Knoxville commercial station tries standards. It ought to be a worthwhile format for them now.
