WOGL #1's weekend A to Z.

Man, what a blast hearing this station online. All the Hot 100 #1's of the 60's through the 80's in alpha order. Kudos to WOGL!!

Wish they included the 50's though. But an excellent countdown!!! One of the best out there.

They left out a number of songs and the ones they played were not always in alphabetical order. I actually wanted to hear if they would play Whitesnake's #1 and they didn't. Also, if an act had 2 consecutive songs alphabetically, they would skip one, so I give the stunt a "D" rating.

With a regular playlist that doesn't include the '50s, there's little-to-zero reason to think they'd do that. Nor is there a good business reason for doing so.

Maybe not. But as a heritage station it would be cool if they were to insert some of the biggest 50's #1's for special occasions only (such as this past Labor Day weekend). After all, they still play that doo wop stuff on Sunday Nights.

If anything, the doo wop show on WOGL these days sounds more out of place with the rest of the station than a tune like Ray Charles' "What I'd Say" (1959) for example.

And another thing, why don't they create a 50's and early 60's channel on one of their HD's? I find it strange that there are no real oldies on any of the HD Channels. Not too many people are running out to buy an HD radio to hear KYW or WPHT in "crystal clear FM Stereo."

I've said for a while that if HD channels offered more of a variety that people (such as I) might actually purchase an HD radio.

They actually played "Mack The Knife" which was #1 in 1959, so maybe they played other 50's songs to cover for them not playing all the #1's from the 60's-80's... ???

They did this with "Venus", they left out the Shocking Blue version and played Bananarama's version from '86 instead, the first time around through the alphabet.

Wonder if they really played Milli Vanilli's three (lip-sync'd) #1 singles: Blame it on the Rain, Baby Don't Forget My Number & Girl I'm Gonna Miss You, all from 1989.

Also noticed that many 1960-62 songs were left out, such as "Moody River" and "Running Bear".

Regarding the 50's, "Rock Around the Clock" was listed as played.

I think they did play "Running Bear". Maybe it was another of their "not in order" songs.

Why did they play Step Into Christmas by Elton John? That was not #1 by any measure.

Why did they play Step Into Christmas by Elton John? That was not #1 by any measure.

Considering how inconsistant they have been, my guess is that it was a #1 on a christmas chart. Check Joel Whitburn's research books to be sure.
