every time i scan past 98.1 im thinking how much longer can it last????

Read the ratings. It's a top rated station that just forced out a copy-cat competitor.Perhaps one of the Urban-oriented stations might change. A young Rock or Country Gold station would fill a nice hole.

I hope not. I like how it is right now. If it was to change, would they still keep "The Elvis & Friends Show"? It always does well in the ratings.

The Elvis & Friends Show days are numbered.wogl will not be playing any 60's music soon.I think they are going to be playing all 70's and 80's music in the next 2 years.or it will be jack fm.as for as oldies music goes 50's and 60's may I say XM !!!!all the 50's and 60's you can ask for.[EDIT].they can't even call them self oldies 98 anymore they think they are to good for that.

[EDIT=inflammatory, language]

It is something that with all the stations in this market, they don't see a economic possibility to program a station for the 55 plus ages. Surely we have the money more so than the 12 to 34 year olds. This market has a dozen religious stations, and tons programing for minorities but no music reflecting the 55 to 100 year olds? Also no full time classical station which would definitely bring in the higher demo class for monitary advertising income. I would take some chances with alot of promotion to make such a station a success.I would do it correctly unlike it was done in previous attempts. 8)

It's a mystery to me how this station could do well. They were hackneyed as Oldies 98 the last few years and they're just as bad as Greatest Hits of the 60's & 70's. That current title covers 20 years. All they can come up with is the same couple hundred songs played day after day? And they're the same songs from the 60's and 70's that anybody else plays. There's an audience locked to 98.1 for that? To me, the morning show is unlistenable. It is the Webster definition of I-N-S-I-P-I-D.

If smooth jazz needs a home, there are many candidates on the Philly FM dial. And 98.1 sounds like it also has a vacancy.

Bingo!

Another one proves my theory that one reason (but certainly not the only one) that oldies is a dying format is because the format is typically dumbed down and terribly executed. Not "badly" executed....terribly executed. I like oldies, my I-pod is full of 'em (about 1600 at last count), but I seldom listen to oldies stations. I travel in my work, and I never bother to look for oldies stations except in Canada, where thanks to the "Can Con" law, stations forced to have deeper playlists. Otherwise, the other English-speaking countries' oldies stations are just as I-N-S-I-P-I-D as the drones found here.

(Certainly includes WOGL, the last time I heard it a couple of years back).

Listen to their *I Love the 70's Sunday" -- it's 9 hours of music that you can hear every weekend on New Jersey 101.5.

CBS owns the Smooth Jazz station in Houston. No reason why CBS can't do it in Philadelphia.

WOGL PD Anne Gress was PD at WJJZ. But I doubt WOGL will flip to smooth jazz.

Why should they change? As was mentioned earlier in this thread, WOGL gets good ratings and the few times I put it on they seem to have a heavy spot load, so they must be making money. I personally don't like WOGL as they do play the same ole same ole day in and day out, even though they have a great record library that sits and collects dust. Apparently many people don't mind hearing the same songs every day, thus the good ratings.
