WOGL Dipping a Toe into the 2000s

I've only seen one song so far, but it's a tiny shift.

They've seemed to have added to regular rotation Mary J. Blige- "Family Affair" which was released in 2001. (I believe B101 has it in their library as well.)

WOGL has tossed some 90s tunes in recently as well, including Green Day- "When I Come Around" (1994), Natalie Imbruglia- "Torn" (1998) and REM- "Losing My Religion" (1991)

Whoa...WHAT!!!????

They used to be a decent station couple of years ago, with a much handful of 70's Motown and disco tunes mixing in with some 80's stuff complete with vintage JAM jingles and a lineup with radio veterans. Now, they are trying to go after Ben, with more 80's-90's tunes in their playlist and only playing little 70's.

Our oldies station in my market doesn't do that. Their library only consists of mostly 70's-80's, with some 60's mixing in. That's it.

Wouldn't be surprised if WOGL starts including Britney Spears into their playlist.....

Eventually they will, as that demographic ages into their target, and Britney's hits were big enough (and probably still test well enough) to be included in the playlist at some point

It is absolutely appropriate to be adding songs of that era.

I'm quite happy to hear Green Day on WOGL. 90s-early 2000s is well over 20 years ago now. It's fitting for the format.

I'm surprised there aren't more classic hits stations playing her, and contemporaries like Ricky Martin or N'Sync. Her first #1 hit was 22 years ago, which should be well within the age range for a 35-54 targeted station.

It had to happen at some point though.
