Harvey Holiday did a nice job tonight with a 2 hour tribute to doo wop-pop singer Johnny Maestro of the Crests & Brooklyn Bridge. First live 'Street Corner Sunday' for HH in many years since it first went to the 3 hour format. In a genre losing major artists frequently, I think it was the longest tribute to 1 artist in the 21 years of the show. Other tributes (like Pookie Hudson of the Spaniels) were basically longer sets of maybe 6 songs. While a New York singer, Maestro was popular here with lots of Phila. & Jersey shore appearances over 50 years. For a usually predictable station like OGL it's nice to hear them do something different once in a while.
In his home market in NYC, I wonder if CBS-FM was allowed to even mention this - maybe they played "Worst That Could Happen" since it was a late '60's top 10 song. "16 Candles" is still a popular song at "Sweet 16" parties 52 years after it was a hit, so some younger people knew his voice if not his name!
