This must have just happened right after the Top 1000 countdown...but I heard Harvey Holiday say the station is now The Greatest Hits of the 60's/70's/ and 80's. It now also says that on thier website. It was only a matter of time for that move. Still an outstanding station nonetheless.

When Oldies Radio first began, circa 1970, it featured songs back to 1954/55. Songs 15 years old. The 80's were 18 years ago.

It's about time to make the change.

Did I miss something? I thought WOGL plays already 60's 70's and 80's as an Greatest Hits station?

It already did play the 60's, 70's, and a select number of '80's cuts, and from what I see this morning, nothing has really changed, except for the slogan. The music seems to be quite similar.

Adding the '80s to a late '60s & '70s format should sound seamless. Have you ever noticed how a 25-year-old song today doesn't really seem as different in tone as a song from 1958 may have sounded in 1983?

Many will disagree, but I still say WOGL's success can be attributed to becoming the default station in a Sunny-less Philly radio market for those put off by today's too-rock country, too-urban smooth jazz, and too-all-over-the-map AC.

i think there is some more 80s in the mix now that they are officially branding themself as 60s, 70s, and 80s, but it sounds good. very good, in fact; so much so that this station, which has never been in my presets since 1987, is now there. very wide mix, similar to mix 106.7 in harrisburg which also calls themself 60s, 70s, and 80s. it's almost sunny 104.5, but focusing more on the upbeat songs from those three decades instead of the sleepy ones. sounds good. i'm impressed for a corporate radio station. i may actually have a reason to listen to something other than satellite radio.

as a side note, it's fascinating to see how a station that for 21 years has never had a wholesale format flip, but in those 21 years has ever so slightly kept tweaking the format that it was perfectly seamless. sort of like looking at a picture of yourself from 1987 next to a picture of yourself now. wow, what a change. but because you see yourself everyday in the mirror, you never really change much to yourself. the same here. if you heard billy joel and rick james on WOGL in 1987, you'd swear the station had changed formats.

Bottom Line, they are the only game in town, no matter how you slice it, so they perform well......If Martini Lounge was put on 97.5 or another Real Oldies station came on the FM band, you would see OGL slip. NJO had them on the ropes with a rimshot signal years back, just with the fact they played some tunes OGL would not touch, and programmed little Motown and Soul.

Is Wogl Clear Channel? In Portland, Oregon they flipped 105.9 from Smooth Jazz to The Greatest Hits of the 60's, 70's and 80's. CBS already flipped 106.7 to 60's and 70's after Entercom sold KKSN. Now Clear Channel has changed 105.9 KQOL back to 60's and 70's Oldies. So now Portland has 2 Oldies stations!
