WOGL Rebrands at Big 98.1

I checked and it is died for 4th in market billing. But in 25-54 it is no longer in the Top 10, so they had to do something to protect the revenue.
That seems amazing to me that the Classic Hits station in Philly isn't in the top 10 25-54. It's Classic Hits, for crying out loud.

Advertisers, especially in markets with lots of agency business, consider 55+ listeners poison. Even including '80s music in a classic hits format in 2022 attracts too many of these set-in-their-ways, difficult-to-sell-trendy-stuff-to listeners.

Sure, I get that part. I'm saying that considering the number of option on the terrestrial dial, and the fact that the format targets 25-54, it's incredible that there are at least 10 stations here that do better than WOGL in that demo.

Same here, been buying store-brand groceries since my 30s. I do remember, as a kid, begging my mother to buy me the latest sugary cereal I'd seen advertised on Saturday morning TV quite a few times!
My latest laugh was seeing Champion brand gym shorts (for lack of a better description) for some obscene price around 50 bucks. Somehow, sometime, I’m told it became trendy, and the price went up.

This was the brand on the bargain table at Kmart (remember them?), like 3 for 20 not all that long ago.

“Trendy” is overrated Big time (to bring this back to Big 98 😂🤣).

I can think of some obvious ones, but 10 or more is stretching what I would have once guessed.

WMMR Finally beated the crap out of WDAS-FM
WDAS is predominantly a Black 18-34 and 25-44 station, stronger in women. WMMR is predomiantly a 35-64 station, much stronger in white Men.

They don't compete directly.

Radio is not a horse race. There can be a dozen or more "winners" in every major market.

I could also get into the detail that ad buyers use rating, not share (although that is changing to "impressions") and both stations look the same in rating.

Yes, Philly soul's last hurrah may have been the Spinners' versions of "Working My Way Back to You" and "Cupid" (both part of medleys). Or more tragically, the era may have ended with Teddy Pendergrass's paralyzing car accident 2 years later. But that's another thread.

I'll be curious to see if WOCL 1059 Sunny FM continues its downward trend. That station has already been stripped of most of its personality, the lone exception being Domino in afternoons. Mornings are now essentially conservative talk with a couple songs, middays are tracked and nights and weekends are just sweeps. Big 105 with Domino in the Morning?

Doubt it. They’re still doing well enough. WOCL lacks the perception issue WOGL says is behind their rebrand, and SunnyFM shows decently in 25-54.

WOCL I believe is the first Audacy classic hits station to move completely out of the 70s.

I’m not a fan of political talk on a music station, but from some recent numbers I saw on here it seems to be going over well for WOCL.
