WOGL To Join B & Now In Holiday Hullaballoo

Today they've been airing a promo saying "Philadelphia's new Christmas classics station is coming soon!"

I thought KYW's SantaTrax was the whole point of WOGL not going this route in the first place.

Then again, CBS is already playing holiday hits 24/7 on thir Boston oldies station, and they're gonna pull the trigger on New York's CBS-FM later this week, too... Corporate mandate?

i dont know if OGLS listeners will stand for the all christmas stuff
harvey holiday said turkey tunes start @ 4:30 whats that mean

"Turkey Tunes" = a horrid, shrieking turkey mimicking the beat of a popular song; guess what the turkey is singing" to win a prize.

Today's "Turkey Tune": Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees.

B101 had it to itself last year, it got a 17 share.
This year, the Christmas pie will be split 3 (or 4 including WHAT) ways. I predict B101 - 7 Now 97.5 - 5 WOGL - 4.5 WHAT - 0.5

Why not just make every radio station play christmas music, if it draws that many listeners...GEEZ

What ever happened to sprinkling Holiday songs throughout the day? When did "wall to wall" become the norm?

Sure wish I knew that :) I liked "sprinking" them in, because the build up really did make it seem special once you got to those Christmas Eve/Day marathons. Now...eh, it's nothing special at all this way.

First of all, let me say this: John, that was amazing! You deserve some kind of message board award for going above-and-beyond the call of duty!

Secondly, do we suspect they're gonna do a full-time flip? Maybe they're just gonna do weekends. Or maybe they're gonna start at noon on December 24! Personally, I'd like them to do it right now...but I don't know whether I think that'd be the best business decision for them. I'm sure Greater Media is champing at the bit to get some WOGL listeners to tune in to BEN-FM and WMGK.

grins, hey, I figgured I had it, and since it wasn't playing very often, I figgured I'd find them in the hours I recorded. My pleasure to do this for those that may not have heard them. They aren't playin this promo alot, and those are the only three they were playin as of that time.
I think I'd like the WOGL christmas better then B or Now anyway. Maybe radio is turning into "Insert Station format here" christmas? Like CHR's have there christmas format, Classsic Hits has there's, AC's has there's

This has been discussed before, but the all-Christmas format sprang up in November of 2001 in a number of markets as a way to bring some comfort and 'normalcy' after 9-11. The success of the first stations brought the format to almost every market by 2002, including on Sunny 104.5 here. Apparently it has worked because stations have carried the tradition on for 7 years now. I still think Sunny set the standard here. I would assume WOGL would stick with what they play normally 12-24 & 12-25 - oldies versions of Christmas songs plus songs by 'standards' artists that were played on top 40 radio at Christmas back in the day.

I like the all Christmas music - I remember in the years before Sunny listening through the 'light & easy favorites' for the scattered Christmas songs on WFMZ or the :15 & :45 Christmas songs on 'Oldies 98'. For those who dislike this, well, it goes back to a version of the old 2001 saying, 'if you're playing all Christmas music because of 9-11, then the terrorists won'.

Maybe with the bad economic times there's an idea to push more of this music? For comfort? For the economy to encourage buying? For ratings? I like the idea of more variety and I'll tend to listen to stations that offer me more variety (but please limit I Want A Hipp.. For Christmas, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, etc.) I've tuned into 1340 WHAT a couple of times and like the old standards and will be interested to see what WOGL offers from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Is Wilmington's WJBR 99.5 going all Christmas like last year?

I may be wrong about the exact timing but it appears they did so this morning.

It's official: WOGL flipped the switch this morning with Frank Sinatra's "The Christmas Song" after the 6 AM news.

For the record, Maxine Nightingale's "Right Back Where We Started From" was the last pagan song played. :)

Right now, WOGL is playing Jim Croce's "It Doesn't Have To Be That Way". I guess according to them, it qualifies as a "Philadelphia Christmas Classic (TM)" since there's a reference to Santa Claus in the lyrics.

Definitely an interesting play.

Oh My Frigging God  Is every radio station in town going to cling to their christmas music and their guns for the holidays??? :-\ If the urban leaning stations go that route, the world as we know it is doomed!! :'(

I have removed 97.5 and 101.1 FM from my presets on my radio. I am not a huge fan of christmas music on the radio.

That's 105. 3 FM for people that are reading this board outside of Philadelphia.

i wonder how JJZ would have done if it was still around i think they could have gained more listeners from ogl-b101.1 for the holidays
did gm react too fast to flip WJJZ ?
