WOGL

With Sunny gone, now is the time for OGL to tweak its playlist and personality. Add about 500 songs to those already being played, have some weekend promos like British Invasion, Music from the Movies, a Double Play weekend, etc. Put an early 60's or even a 50's song in the mix now and again. Have an Oh-Wow Wednesday where we could hear songs we haven't heard for a while. And get some (or recycle!) good jingles and imaging! Give yourself a name. If Oldies 98 won't cut it anymore come up with something else.

I almost drove off the road about 4:15-20 when they played David Bowie "Changes". I was in a panic until Big Ron came on and segued (as only he knows how!) to Bob Kelly for the traffic. I thought we had another flip on our hands!!!!

Great idea makes perfect sense to me. The problem is you have a PD at 98 who wasn't around when the songs from the 50's & early 60's were big. There for she doesn't like those songs & whatever she doesn't like is thrown out of the playlist. Example Lesley Gore Maybe I Know is from 1964 fits the format of the new 98 format of 64-through 70s but it ain't in there playlist. We could go on & on with artist that fit the new format that don't get played. WOGL is becoming a p-ssy version of B-101. Let's play Billy Joel & Elton John every half hour. I remember when Jammin Gold went off the air WOGL tweaked the playlist a little by throwing in some Disco Tunes. They also made a new sweeper saying "We're Your One & Only Oldies Station In Philadelphia" with Charlie Van Dyke doing the sweeper. The days of specality weekends at the station they are long gone :( Unlesss a new PD steps in. :)

WOGL needs to play some 50's like every 20 or 30 min they could play one.or over night from like 12:00 am till 6:00 am could be all 50's and 60's.now I would just love that more people would listen at night then they would in the day if they did that .I dont know why they don't put all 50's and 60's on HD 2.

Sorry to break the news to you but all pre-1964 music now predates the money demo. Even someone who is now 54 was barely in junior high when the Beatles invaded. So why would OGL play stuff not suited to its demo? Face it, 50s and early 60s music has no value to a radio programmer building an audience of interest to advertisers. Even the mid and late 60s music is due to disappear from competitive radio stations in just a couple more years (with the possible exception of a handful of very timeless Motown and Beatle-type hits).

I dunno, I don' think the former WCBS-FM is setting the world on fire as 101.1 Jack FM. I'm sure Greater Media thought they'd get the jump on CBS by launching Ben. But, in the end, I'm sure CBS is laughing (all the way to the bank, no doubt).

No Changes coming on WOGL Back to 50's and early 60's Music
WOGL Riding High on Clear channel Flips,They now have moved up to number 4 in Monthly Ratings, have gained many new account executives from Sunny 104.5 and 106.1 and have added many songs from the late 70's and early 80's and will continue to do so.
They have no desire to become a Sunny 104 or B101.
All Personalities on WOGL are very Secure and CBS Intends to keep upbeat Personalities unlike Clear Channel's Voice over Plans.
