WOGL's Christmas Music NOT 24/7

Last week on another thread I wondered if WOGL would keep the speciality programming on weekends - turns out they did. I heard Bob Pantano's regular disco mix last night & the Elvis & Beatles shows today. So they are playing Christmas music in place of their 'classic hits' during the week but are not pre-empting the speciality shows. With WHAT running their Sinatra hour, that makes just Now, B, & JBR ALL Christmas.
I'm glad WOGL's keeping these shows - but will keep them out of stores wanting all Christmas all the time.

WOGL is playing Christmas music for its regular audience, with their 'foreground' jocks in place. Now 97.5 has the most to gain by becoming the background station in stores, offices & cars in trying to build and hold a new audience. So far Now is the only Christmas station I've heard around town - in Daddypops diner in Hatboro (which usually plays WOGL) and going from shop to shop in Peddler's Village yesterday - which used to be all Sunny 104.5 territory.

My barber has on B101, though he and my dad got into a disscution about likeing the older stuff better, so i told them about 98.1.
In the dollar store at the mishamity mall, they have on 97.5. The Hold music for Dial electronics is 97.5 too.

Now 97.5 was the first all-Christmas station, so when everyone else flipped,
Now had the advantage of being the incumbent.

Bob Pantano could play the disco album "Christmas Jollies" from the Salsoul Orchestra. Anyone remember it?!

Can't quite say I "remember" it (I believe I had turned two years old just before the album's release) but I came across it in the mid '90s and I think it is a real hoot. It could be described as disco-fied Christmas music and for those who aren't afraid of such things, it is very entertaining. Although the idea of it can be a turn-off, it's actually an extremely festive-sounding collection. And it serves as a little reminder that some aspects of disco music were actually quite good!

And I agree WOGL could play a few of the tracks. I can't imagine it wouldn't test through the roof with females in their 30's, 40's, and 50's. Also a good candidate because of the "Philly Soul" element of the disc and because, IIRC, the whole thing was recorded right here in Philly, making it a true "Philadadelphia Christmas Classic!"

On Street Corner Sunday (one of the non-all-Christmas weekend shows) HH played some doo-wop and old rock & roll Christmas songs probably not in the weekday rotation.

Cadillac just said that Salsoul Orchestra is coming up in the next set. I love when people let us program their stations! ;)

Oh, please, don't kid yourself. Their holiday medley has been a local hit for years. It's even in rotation on The Cockroach whenever we play our own Christmas music!
