WOKV

I was wondering about potential ratings impact to WOKV AM now that the station is on FM too.

I would think Cox Radio wants to introduce new listeners to the station but I wouldn't think that would be happening to a big extent yet. And so for those who normally listen to WOKV on AM and have found it on FM may find that band more convenient.

It seems AM OKV potentially will slip in the ratings with FM going up a bit. I guess the total number of listeners can be determined for ad revenue etc. but doesn't this move, at least for now, make WOKV AM vulnerable to drop out of the Top 5 all together? This appears to be another nail in the AM coffin. I'm thinking down the road, Cox Radio may just want to get rid of WOKV AM.

I'll defer to the experts out there for their views on this.

Happy Holidays!

Wouldn't they appear on the same line together as a simulcast?

Didn't they do the same with WAPE when it went from AM to FM?

YES - The combined ratings for WOKV AM & FM will appear as a single entry on Arbitron's published ratings much like WWL out of New Orleans. It's also a News-Talk AM station that's simulcast on FM. WWL currently receives double-digit ratings (combined), and while the same is unlikely for WOKV it could very well become a solid # 2 station in the Jacksonville radio market behind WQIK.

THE MAJOR

Ahh, it makes sense. I think I may have confused the situation here with other markets that have same AM/FM but may not have not simulcast programing. Thanks.
