WOKY Goes Oldies

It's not a huge change musically -- they've been drifting towards Oldies for a while now -- but effective today, WOKY has begun promoting itself as "Top 40 Hits of the 60's and 70's," with some new jingles added in. Revised website, too: www.am920woky.com/main.html.

When I was listening this afternoon, I don't think I heard one song from the 1970's, but there were definitely more rockin' 1960's Top-40 selections than in the recent past on WOKY, including "Touch Me" by The Doors and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by the Stones. Also The Supremes, Jan & Dean, Gene Pitney, Sonny & Cher, and The Beatles. Since you don't hear much from the 1960s anymore on WRIT, or anywhere else in Milwaukee, it's great to welcome back "Mighty 92" in its glory!

It sounds the way WRIT sounded a year or two ago. And similar to Kenosha's WLIP. WOKY's daytime DJs are a plus.................I think that WLIP is syndicated. WLIP does some great Saturday programming. Their Oldies Coast To Coast show in the afternoons includes some '50s music. And Terry Havel's Rock & Roll Never Forgets on Sat. evenings is outstanding. Terry takes requests, and he plays some local stuff. It's radio the way it should be. I'm curious to see what WOKY will do on weekends.

Shame it doesn't sound like RIT did years back

The daytime playlist (when they are in local programming) is pretty much the way WRIT was in 2000-2001.

The Dial Global (Westwood One) playlist (7PM-5AM, Weekends) is WRIT a couple years ago.

That 2000 pocket of WRIT was pretty good. The past baggage of ZTR was just too
damn much to ever let the station pull a number.

...both WOKY and WRIT were small potatoes when WLS and WCFL were just as easily tunable...

Listeng online and over the air when/where there's sufficient signal here in Northeast Illinois.  Its certainly refreshing to hear a legendary station back with something approximating its "classic" format.

CC is no Bartell however, and the pesentation strikes me as somewhat lacking in energy.  Then again....probably most listeners (myself included) don't have the same level of energy as 40 years ago either!  ;D
