WOLD now on the 107.9 translator

nd2023

I just heard WOLD announce W300CZ in its legal ID. That means they're now on the translator in East Windsor

The translator is actually in Marlboro and is attempting to cover the northern Monmouth County part of the Jersey shore.

And for at least the past month, WOLD-LP's audio has sounded like a low-bitrate Internet stream, and is in mono even though they're still transmitting a stereo signal.

How could WOLD or any of their translators be broadcasting from Marlboro?? That would be blatantly illegal as there is no such licensed site authorized for a broadcast so you may want to re-check your data Kevtronics... accuracy should always be most important.

FCC database shows that 107.9's primary station is WPRB Princeton. Is it possible that WOLD-LP is using an HD of 103.3 to broadcast on this particular 107.9?

They dont have to audibly/aurally ID the translators.. you can do it silently via frequency shift keying, commonly referred to as FSK which is some kind of inaudible shifting of the frequency or something

Shouldn't WOLD be recognized as the oldies station for the entire state of New Jersey? Only if they put translators and repeaters from north to south...

That app doesn’t say *granted* so I don’t think their broadcasting from Marlboro, therein lies the misinformation/incorrect data that was posted... I know everyone has a little “know it all” complex but it’s always best to dot your “i’s” and cross your “t’s” before posting...

Between WXNY-HD4 and WPRB-HD3 it covers everywhere north of the Atlantic City expressway. If they could get on WENJ-HD3 then they could cover the entire state

The 107.9 translator is delayed several seconds from the main WOLD transmitter. It's also overmodulated. They should really synchronize those transmitters so that they don't interfere with each other and cause people to tune out.
I'm thinking that perhaps the owner of the 107.9 translator eventually wants to move it to the World Trade Center. It's made baby steps from its initial home of Ewansville. WOLD doesn't want the interference from that translator, and they have complained to the FCC about it. So the translator is translating WOLD so that they don't get shut down by WOLD complaining about them in their trek towards NYC.

Are you with WOLD or is this mere speculation? Curious minds would like to know. From where I sit, if the issues going on in NYC with the current translator are any indication of what complications are involved, I wouldn't be so quick to assume that's the plan. An HD primary and rent up there at 1 WTC cannot be cheap only to add legal fees on top of it while it sits in "limbo"... And I just checked, 107.9 still resides in Ewansville adjacent from what appears to be the turnpike. I didn't see any filed complaints in the correspondence folder either for the translator but I would be curious to read them if you have a link...

Anyone else notice that WOLD-LP's translator on 95.1 in Edison (W236CT) is audible at great distances to the north and west, even though its signal is supposed to be sharply directional towards the southeast? I can even pick it up on rather cheap radios, indoors, in my home north of Route 22.

The terrain rises to the northwest. It makes it favorable for receiving stations to the south and east. You might also be able to hear a few Atlantic City stations there

Atop the Mountain in Green Brook (above Route 22 - Washington Rock State Park), it was a challenge but still possible to get stations as far as Philly because of the 1st adjacents to the NYC stations, and with the NY skyline in view 30 miles east. Couldn't find Atlantic City stuff but WJRZ or WBBO or WOBM was awesome to catch (this was in the late 1990s before all these translators and LPFMs went up)

Last time I was up there I had trouble hearing WOLD on 95.1 only 5 miles away up 287 near Piscataway and Bound Brook
