Wolf 101.9 Morning Show

So what's up with the Wolf morning show? Word on the street was they were let go because of ratings. I see no new talent on their website. The only guy I heard in mornings was...well...maybe I better keep my opinion to myself.

Word has it that the talentless board op from MY92.5 has been hired to host! What????? really Entravision? First you fire a program director that has a great resume that never had a chance to begin with because of your lack of marketing and promoting. Then you fire your morning show that lost ratings(according to people currently in your building) due to your PPM strategy that is more music and no personality. Newsflash~ IT DOESN'T WORK! Look around you in other markets, the "more music format" works for 3-4 months and people get sick of the lack of local content and move on.

Heather was a nice gal the few times I met her but she is NOT country and not very attractive, Susan was much more of a hottie. Ever see Heather on Fox? They made it dark so you couldn't see that nose. Look, when you signed on I had faith that you would give 105.1 a run for their money. Then you ruin a good thing beginning with pushing your GM out and hiring a sales manager to GM a group of unsuccessful stations. Not a smart move, I hear she is trying to program the station now? Wow, best of luck to the remaining staff at the Wolf and the Bomb! I'm sure you'll be fine once your out of that building.

Actually Bob, you are not quite accurate in regard to the PPM.

The trend for music stations that research (I know the dreaded R word) has bared out is that content that is relevant has less to do with talk, and more to do with information useful to the listener...I know not a new revelation. However, big "personalities" in AM drive who like to talk about themselves and internal to the communication are a turn off. So now AM shows are much more music intensive with a host (or 2, likely a news person) that gives relevant, useful info and nuggets, then moves out of the way for the music...think of it as a great waiter at your favorite restaurant...you love the food (music for radio) but when you get that good/great service, that makes the experience better, and you stay/return more often.

So, have your opinion, your thoughts read as someone who was wronged by the station or said GM, but do not let that blind you to the facts and the new lay of the land in regard to radio and the PPM.

I never did buy that "waiter" analogy. We know that listeners will follow their favorite jock from one station to another - in fact, that's such a pressing concern for managers that most of them insist on a non-compete clause for their on-air talent. If the "waiter" analogy were accurate, that would be like diners following their favorite waiter from restaurant to restaurant, which I'm pretty sure most people have never done. To me, a good jock is much less like a good waiter and much more like a good appetizer - not the main course, but definitely a crucial part of the menu.

I heard that the Wolf is looking at midday host 'Rosie.' from the Zone. Why not? Easy to market. Easy to take the listeners that he had. It wasnt great but...

Meanwhile across town and up the dial....

This morning marked the 18th year of KNCI's Pat & Tom Show. This makes them the longest running consecutive morning duo in Sacramento radio history.

Ouch. The personal attacks necessary there, bub? And when do you have to BE country to do country?

Amen to that. It seems that women are mostly on the receiving end of that crap. I was thinking about responding about that highly misogynistic comment when it was made a while back.

And since when do looks mean anything in radio? I haven't met a lot of beauty contest winners (male or female) working behind the mike. Obviously you believe that looks equate to broadcasting talent.

And yes, I have a face for radio, too.

Looks DO matter at many radio stations. I know many talented jocks passed over for weaker better looking jocks. Same for management. What's wrong with Heather. She 's not ugly. I like her nose.

Looks

I've had many female listeners come to remotes...only to say, "Oh, You're Steve."
Did they have a picture of me in their mind?
I guess I too have a great face for radio. :p

Wow. I worked with Heather Lee at KDON in Monterey. She is not only is a great talent on and off the air, people really like her. She has a very friendly personality, and she's very cute.

I do understand that you're not going to be liked by everyone. And that's OK. Heck, not everyone is going to like me. For whatever reason. When I was working at KWIN/Stockton, I actually had a listener call me up and say, "Eww! You're going bald! I'm never going to listen to you ever again!" She hung up. I put her call on the air and said, "You know what? I'm coming to work tomorrow with a completely shaved head so that people like you don't ever listen to me again. I'd rather be #2 with great listeners, than be #1 with listeners like you."

Hey Interloper!

Research shows less Personality and More Music?

Tell that to Elvis Duran or CUbby or even Boring Seacrest.

Wake up!

No one wants a jukebox giving away free burgers...

Get a budget, get a clue, or get out of the way.

Stations like this deserve to get beat by IPODS. LOL

I hate to point this out, but Sacramento hasn’t had anybody do a full out research project in awhile for the market, because it’s not in their budgets. A few stations did a lot of research, I know one PD in the market that is screaming about being able to get that done, but it’s not happening. So to generalize research is a very careless thing to do concerning programming, especially in Sacramento. If you rely on national research numbers you’re going to be a middle rank station at best. They’re good as a guide and that’s all. If you live by them your station is going to die by them. I recently saw a local research project for a Hot AC station and it pointed out those listeners in that market WANTED local personalities and more content on the air. People have an expectation of radio and DJ’s with talk and music are part of that. So it’s not one size fits all.
