Wolf falls to 1.1

How about Real Oldies 95-7, playing favorites from the 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's!
KOIT's HD-2 channel could then simulcast their sister station from Sacramento, 107-9 The End!

I could never handle the music on The Wolf, but I have to give them kudos for what they tried to do. In its day it was a fine execution of a country format with a high-energy presentation. I don't hear that so much today when I check them out. It's almost like the positive spirit isn't there anymore. Hard to explain, but I guess the audience feels it.

Why do you say that? Ratings are low, so why wouldn't they flip it?

I would love to see Adult Hits come back on 95.7, I'm sure it would do better than the country format

Too bad actually....It's a great sounding Country outlet.

But they've got a supreme opportunity to go Classic Hits, ala KRTH & KOOL....While The Band drags it's feet!

Hope they're smart enough to see it??

Part of the problem is the signal itself. 95.7 has problems in a number of areas. It almost doesn't matter what format they put on, if you can't receive it clearly without fuzz or multipath distortion, you're tuning somewhere else sooner or later.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing someone do classic hits/oldies. But the demos argument will likely prevent the stations that could really make this format fly from switching, even if that means they continue with a mediocre format and middle-of-the-pack ratings.

In the latest ratings The Wolf came up with a 1.1, anyone think we'll see a flip soon? I think so

Back in 1959 I'm told that everybody was playing rock or Top 40. A new guy came to town. His name was Gordon McLendon. He had successful Top 40 stations in Texas and elsewhere, and people were bracing for yet another rocker or Top 40 station. Instead, he put on a "beautiful music" station, KABL, filled with lush strings, harps, lots of instrumentals, and even a little light classical at night.

KABL zoomed to #1 in a book or two. Why? They were doing something nobody else was doing, and something people wanted to listen to.

Gordon McLendon was considered a radio legend, and yet today's programmers don't seem to be following his ideas at all. And if you don't like the mainstream music of the past 20 years your SOL trying to find some music to listen to on the radio -- well, on commercial radio anyhow.

The 95.7 stick will be forever cursed....

Bonneville should've never dropped the CHR format.
Or Westinghouse should've never dropped the Classical Music format. ;)

I think they are. That's why they're playing country music on this station. The market was once a good market for that format. It just needs to find the right signal and the right mix. But the potential is there. Otherwise, they could just try another flavor of AC.

The other point though is it's not 1959. How many usable signals did SF have in 1959? What alternatives did the public have to radio in 1959? Maybe that's why the Wolf has a 1 share.

Nearly the same number as today. Since 1959 I believe only 107.7 and a few small AMs and a couple non-comms have come on the air.

Nope. Quite a few FMs, including KOIT-FM, KYLD-FM, KBRG-FM, KBLX-FM, KMVQ-FM, and 107.7 signed on after. Actually KOIT signed on exactly in 1959.

But my point is how many people listened to FM then? So the SF audience was mainly split among the AMs. Thus the shares were larger.

Now AM is dying a slow death :(

What station on AM in the Bay Area is good besides KCBS,KGO & KNBR??

There's no music like Top 40 or Rock on AM...The only music coming is Radio Disney & that catters to Kids

they should go back to Z95.7 (a top 40 format). Country format doesn't work here in the Bay Area. Or relaunch something like Rock 92.3 with some new music unlike the Bone.
