They are.

But SHOULD they be playin those tunes??? "This is TEXAS country...995 the Wolf"...into ZZ Top. I don't tune into a country station to hear Mellencamp, ZZ Top, Eagles et al...

John, couldn't agree more... their format is more like the BONE. and uh, note to the ever-popular John Sebastian, "Take a look at how that is working out!"

However, the problem with your post is the problem that JS has when he took over and let loose the 'Nother Animal. You mention, "This is TEXAS country... 995 the Wolf." They need to spend less time picking their nose about what sounds like it came from TEXAS, and more about what in the #$%& sounds like COUNTRY. You know?

"You put the wrong em-FA-sis on the wrong SIL-a-bull." ;D

While we're at it, how about John Denver, Fleetwood Mac, CSN&Y, BTO, Billy Swan, Glen Campbell, Steve Miller (The Stake comes to mind)...

Gosh, if they did that I just might have to listen.

Several years ago when 99.3 not quite Cool-Rock-Pop-etc and they were still trying to Merge the Zone between Radio and the Internet, they seemed to have a format-a-week going on. At one point it was full of what I call the "angry Female singer-songwriter types". For a brief moment they seemed to be testing the waters with an AAA hybrid which I loved. I popped it on one day and heard John Hiatt and Jackson Brown in the same set. I thought I either died and gone to heaven or was dreaming. I must have been dreaming because by the next day they were adjusting it again to more of an EDGE-clone.

With their weak signal they need to serve an audience in the market that #1) isn't currently being served, and #2) they can make some money from (as in attractive to advertisers).

See there, I just became a damn consultant. The invoice is in the mail. Can I cash a check from Cumulus written to Thinker???

Um, Charles... have you ever e-mailed him a criticism? Say, about the genius "'nother animal" campaign? What about playing TEXAS country rather than Texas COUNTRY, you know, like he should be doing?

I have a feeling his response time may get tied up in Cyberspace if he read those. But then again, he got his boy from Nashville to chime in that day. Who knows? :D

Playing what they 'should' be playing has their ratings in the proverbial toilet. Aren't they down to under a 3?

At that point, if I'm the owners or managers, i throw out the window what people think we 'should' be doing...

Hoo boy. Most likely they are not doing what people suggest they should be doing. It takes more than music to make a successful station in a music format, but CONsultants and owners only see black when the real world is in color.
